Dozens of local demonstrators gathered outside of Santa Clarita City Hall on Friday afternoon to continue protesting in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.

“Every single year, there’s just more and more names that go without proper justice,” said Sereen Banna, a protestor. “There’s no accountability, there’s no form of respect for people alive anymore and that’s heartbreaking to see that there’s such division over a basic concept that Black Lives Matter.”

Chanting various names of those killed in acts of both alleged and actual police brutality, protestors advocated for law enforcement reform.

During the protest, supporters of the Black Lives Matter movement walked through the Santa Clarita Valley, moving from Bridgeport Park in Valencia to gather around city hall in protest of police brutality.

“We don’t have intentions to ruin anything, break into anything, loot anything, steal anything,” said Jasmine Banna, another protestor. “We just want our voices to be heard in a peaceful way, especially here in Santa Clarita.”

Starting the conversation between demonstrators and city officials, Santa Clarita Mayor Cameron Smyth met with Black Lives Matter organizers at City Hall Wednesday where the initial “sit-out” demonstration began.

“I envision this to be a multi-meeting process,” Smyth said during Wednesday’s meeting. “This is a kick-off, in conjugation with the broader community roundtable. I don’t want to do all of the talking, I want to do the listening as well.”

The Santa Clarita City Council is set to bring back a decades-old Human Relations Task Force in an effort to encourage discussion and understanding amongst different members of the community.

The Council is expected to discuss this task force further at their next City Council meeting.

  1. All people that behave with proper manners rarely have encounters with LE! Those wearing the uniform of a trouble causer and scream/yell instead of talk like a civilized human will have bad encounters with LE and other people! Interesting, POC like Japanese, Chinese, Filipinos, Koreans, etc. don’t have many problems in life because of proper BEHAVIOR!

    • I’m agreeing with you on this one. Proper behavior while standing for justice and equality as we seen in recent weeks with tens of thousands turning out to make their voices heard and to be seen is a powerful message. I could not be more supportive of these mostly younger people not having the racial hang-ups of their elders who had it passed down to them, and so on. Ive heard not only spokespeople from BLM but demonstrators stopped at random to speak to TV reporters. Most all were more erudite than what is posted here by us including myself. They are smart, well-informed, clear-thinking and resolute. They even brought the police to taking a knee. The ratio of vandalism and looting that always occurs at times of opportunity pail by the numbers of properly behaved people actively participating in democracy. Wasn’t it just last Sunday night an estimated 100,000 showed up in Hollywood… peacefully. Time to get out of the way if you won’t lend a hand.

      • Bring awareness, bring discussions but supporting a radical group Blm isn’t helping your message. Besides their ultimate goal is to make LE obsolete and majority of SCV are not supportive of that plan. It’s a shame these teenagers don’t fully understand the organization they are representing. Domestic terrorist group – using violence and fear on innocent people.

    • I agree with you JoJo!! Don’t be a criminal kids. You won’t have any issues with LEOs.

Also, go help restore destroyed, vandalized neighborhoods that your fellow protesters destroyed. Thanks so much for the empathy towards those that have to rebuild their community and life.

    • So I already know you aren’t black so let me explain something to you. Many black people wear anything, it could be pajamas and they could be walking home and they are still a threat. A kid went to a 7 eleven in a hoodie and was shot dead. Would you like to explain how the uniform the boy wore was threatening and inappropriate. A woman was shot and killed in her own home when the police were looking for a whole different person that was already in custody. So please tell me how your “Wearing the correct uniform and having the right attitude comes in”. Don’t worry I’ll wait ?.

      • Hiding(hoodie) makes it difficult for a cop to assess a situation. So in this case the hoodie was not the appropriate clothing.
Attitude- when stopped by police a threatening or violent attitude creates a more tense and unpredictable situation. A cooperative attitude will help diffuse any violent situation
        Does that help?

        • He wasn’t shot by a cop. The example wa a obvious. Pull your head out of your ass

        • Your comment, Ibk, illustrates how far to the Right (fascist) you are if that’s your suggestion in “how to pass” in this day and age in Kalifornia. I was born and raised here and I have NEVER witnessed a time — even during the Nixon years — when we had to act like Nazis and beg simply not to be shot dead. Do you know what Michael Connelly, the creator of the “Bosch” character calls our fair, fine, WHITE, WHITE, WHITE city?: Santa CHLOROX.

          • I’ve witnessed this all too many times- watts, Rodney king, Ferguson and now george Floyd it all appears that there is a pattern here. And it’s alway violent. Has a black person never killed a white person (think Mississippi yesterday and 1 month ago) Or are they just too busy killing there own(think Chicago)
If the black community wants change they need to start by stopping the criminal behavior and start educating themselves
By the way Pamela what have you done to help the black community lately?

      • I’m pretty sure that girl shot in her home was only shot because her boyfriend shot first.

  2. Firstly, the ‘rare encounters’ claim is somewhat of a sweeping statement, impossible for most of us to verify; secondly, with respect, I find your comments naive. Given the unique African-American history and experience in this country I consider your final comment to be based upon a false comparison. I think self-education and empathy are key right now.

  3. Don’t do drugs and don’t be a thug. You will be ok with whatever your skin color is ✌?Kids

  4. Police Lives Matter!! Officer killed by African American man in Mississippi today. Where’s the acknowledgement? Where’s the media? Where’s the empathy? Where’s the outrage? Did his life matter??????

  5. I have a feeling there’s one giant bootlicker up in here…

  6. Quarantine and bored teenagers. Keep up the message. Oh wait, what IS the message? I can’t seem to get a confirmation on what exactly it is. SMH. Senseless waste of time.

    • You can’t? You must be stupid then. I’d like to think there may be another reason but you’re just a stupid bored prick who’s dismissing other opinions as a result of being bored. Must be fun to be such a condescending moron.

  7. I have zero trust for the hate group, BLM a.k.a. Black Looting and Mayheim. 2 weeks ago I couldn’t believe all the looting and vandalism to businesses caused by them. They even teamed up with ANTIFA. Together they burned buildings, and countless destroyed public property. Since most of the members still live at home they do not understand economics.

These young adults who are protesting at City Hall only believe what the mainstream media feeds them. Here is the clips from police officers that the media doesn’t want to to see.

    • Wow this video. Heartbreaking how people are abusing these heroes.

      • Until the “bad apples” aka “murderers” are exorcised from the police profession the Police are severely compromised. Circling the wagons to protect “one of our own” is behavior typical of corrupt institutions.

“If you aren’t part of the solution you are part of the problem.”

        Happy Juneteenth!

        • Dave – you are intense. For goodness sake what happened to you as a child?! Did you encounter a murderous police officer? Do you have issues with authority? Get help man ?

        • Until The “bad apples” aka “criminals” are removed from the black community then these communities will be the areas the “good cops”will not want to work. There fore these are the areas the “rookies” or least wanted cops work. Stop criminal behavior and that will go along way in fixing the policing system.
The sooner you wake up and realize that criminal behavior is the real problem the sooner we can fix the other problems

  8. Watts riots, LA Rodney King riots, Ferguson riots and George Floyd riots. And I’m sure a few others in between all of these. All of these had to do with police brutality against Criminals and all had destruction and looting as a result. Is it fair to say that the black community is trying to protect the criminals more than insure equal rights. Is it fair to say the black community doesn’t know how to handle their issues correctly so they always revert to violence? Why so much emphasis on protecting Criminals and nothing on preventing crime?

  9. what I have observed by the protesters. There are a lot of young white people out there in support, this tells me that the parents of these white people teach their kids to love all races and to never treat people different because of their color or race. From what I hear from the black people speaking is that their parents are teaching them to hate white people and police officers even telling their kids they will get no where in this white world and spreading the mentally damaging white privilege conspiracy theory to them and its being passed down generation after generation to the black community. This is sad racism needs to stop all the way around, we need to teach all children they they can do and be anything their heart desires here in free and equal America no matter what race they are because we will have equal opportunity here in America. We should never be telling children about this white privilege conspiracy theory as it will only put the felling of being less than others in the mind’s of children and that could stick with them forever.

    • Yessss! Exactly. Planting toxic ideas into kids minds instead of teaching that people don’t hold people back. You are the creator of your destiny. You can’t blame others for your choices. Nobody is oppressed. Let go of that toxic self destructive mindset and free yourself from the self inflicted chains. Anyone can achieve success whatever color your skin is. It starts at home and it starts with a healthy mindset.

    • I’m sorry to hear you have kids, you racist trash.

      • Dave – seek help. Lunatic.

      • By listening to the blm leader, this guys video called uncomfortable Questions to ask a black man and by Dave chappell my conclusion is that most of the black community is now the most racist people in America and the hate and racism is being passed down to them and they will pass it down to their children. Nobody likes the harsh truth but that is exactly what it is. Cops are probably going to be on edge now pulling over black people thinking they might get killed and some white people will be thinking black people hate them all because of this blm group and their following they have made things worse than ever in America for everyone.

    • Mom- Not everyone has the same life as you. Some have to deal with much different concerns. Have you had to have “The Talk” with your kids? Do you even know what that is? From your posts you have shown yourself to be a living example of White Privilege; not a conspiracy theory.

  10. BLM is the biggest hate group of phonies. Second, the young Santa Santa Clarita are protesting with the wrong group. These bored millennials are embracing a marxist mentality taught to them either at the universities, radicalized friends, or possibly by their parents. T

3 years ago, Ben Shapiro “politely” provided BLM with facts and common sense. They couldn’t rebuke him, and they were left speechless. Please watch this and ask yourself if what Black Looting Mayheim has accomplished with destruction across America over the last 2 weeks, and destroying the businesses and dreams of sole proprietors who have no money to rebuild, what BLM looted and burnt down. BLM offers no apology. They just show up to City Council meetings yelling and screaming entitlement for themselves, and threaten to label politicians and business leaders with the word “racist” if they don’t give in to their domestic terrorist demands.

  11. Must’ve triggered the crazy libs since people refuse to be intimidated and silenced any longer. You can hear the desperation in the comments. You can call people names and ridicule but people are speaking up more and more and more….
    VOTE RED ??

  12. Sorry, Charlotte, every day more people are getting fed up with our immoral president.

    • No I think more and more people are waking up realising our media is only telling us their opinions on the news they spread fake racism to stir up the simple minded youth for news and social media blocks anyone who disagrees with them or the Democrats so that there are no other opinions. It’s a sad time in America when one party can control the media in turn controlling the people. Here are some educated black people to clarify things for the not so educated I suggest you look them up on Google or YouTube,Walter Williams, Larry elder, Thomas sowell, Jason Riley, we have no choice but to vote red and fight back against this take over.

      • Mom: So well said!! A shame there are & will be sooo many ignorant sheep fooled by the deceitful, biased Liberal media!

      • The names you mentioned are all right-wing conservatives so what else would you expect to hear from them?
Have you also listened to Donna Brazile, Jason Johnson, Heather McGhee, Van Jones, Marc Lamont-Hill, Angela Rye, Michael Steele, Nia Malika Henderson, Eugene Robinson, Maya Wiley, Jonathan Capehart or Yamiche Alsindor? Had you done so, you too would be educated.
