Supporters for the Black Lives Matter movement organized a“sit-out” demonstration outside of Santa Clarita City Hall Tuesday.
Dozens of demonstrators gathered outside of Santa Clarita’s City Hall Tuesday afternoon, hours before the regularly scheduled Santa Clarita City Council meeting, in a sit-out style presentation.
“There’s been a lot of marches the past few days, which are great, but I think it is just hot, people are burnt out,” said Lauryn Valley, an organizer of the event. “I think just sitting down, it gives you a chance to get to talk to people.”
Black Lives Matter demonstrators have been changing their strategies and locations for spreading their message of change around Santa Clarita.
“I think what they need to know is (that) we want change,” Valley said. “We’re not going to keep with a conservative town… we’re scared about what’s going to happen. We’re just going to regress.”
Valley argued the City’s call for the National Guard last week was an “unfair overreaction.”
“When they were protesting on the corner of McBean to get their haircuts and to reopen the city, those were a lot of people,” Valley said, “They could have brought guns up there and we’re out here with cardboard and they felt the need to call on the national guard- and we’re protesting racism. What is so violent to you about racism that you need to bring in the national guard?”
Valley called the messaging around last week’s demonstration “scare tactics” in order to keep people indoors.
“They didn’t bring out any type of show of support like, ‘Hey, I’m not racist.’ They just brought in basically the military to scare us,” Valley added. “I think that says a lot about this town rather than listening to its citizens, they were like, ‘let’s get you back inside.’ And then they instituted a curfew that went against the County. So I think it was all pretty ridiculous.”
Santa Clarita Mayor Cameron Smyth and City Manager Ken Striplin came out of City Hall to speak to the organizers.
During the City Council meeting at 6 p.m., Smyth said that he is planning on discussing the movement, as well as assembling a new task force to see how the City can address the issues brought forth by the protests.

The looting, vandalizing, and arson protesters that were rioting in nearby cities was a big issue for residents in our town. We are not oblivious to the opportunist waiting for a free pair of sneakers. Sadly, the violence and destruction made safety the #1 concern. #defendthepolice

Sadly, a lot of cities didn’t have the time to prepare for the mob. We are thankful this town didn’t end up like Santa Monica, Van Nuys, downtown LA, Hollywood-Melrose, the Grove. The community couldn’t ignore the destruction going hand in hand with protesting.

BLM is a joke. They are responsible for wide spread looting and mayhem last week, which includes some business owner’s getting beat to a pulp teying to protect their property. In addition, 18 people were shot and killed in Chicago toda today alone! Since it was black on black, BLM does not care. Here is the story.

Why are we arguing about this still? You don’t want to uphold the Constitution? People have the right to assemble peacefully and have the right to free speech. YOU don’t have to agree with them, and you shouldn’t demonize the peaceful protesters. It is wrong. I noticed I did not see Will comment on this article. I Have known will for over seventeen years. I started out as a customer of his Santa Clarita business and then became friends with him and his family. he is well educated and likes to read and learn about everything. as most of you have seen on here he also likes to share and discuss the stuff he learns from his research with everyone. I very much enjoy listening to him on his thoughts and opinions on just about everything, he is open minded, polite and full of knowledge. I decided to call him and ask where are his thoughts on these recent articles. He told me he thinks he has been kicked off the khts comment page for disagreement on the media and their push to say America is racist. I am saddened to hear this. He told me he has been doing research on black America that does not agree with this push to make America look racist. He said he noticed that on YouTube all of the people that do not agree with either the Democrats or this racist America idea gets put into the conservative or far right section of YouTube. Myself and my family have always been Democrats. My sister sent me a video on YouTube of a black man called uncomfortable Question’s. My family watched it and told me it was good, suddenly they were convinced they and the rest of white people were racist and never knew about it until now. My family loves everyone they live in Palmdale half of their friends are black, has media brainwashed them? I decided to post a comment on that video saying it sounds racist for the man to say he doesn’t ride in elevators with white women so they don’t get scared and my comment was deleted. Is our media deleting and blocking people who don’t agree with what mainstream media is telling us ? I support our police and I do not think they are all evil and racist. I will be voting Republican this year after everything I have seen and heard from them and the media they own.
Will’s research consists of right-wing sources so don’t expect truth and fairness from his one-sided revelations. He is factually incorrect most of the time. I study this and check different sources for verification whereas he, as so many do, start from their conclusion and back-fill cherry-picked bits to prove their ignorance or point. He warned us NOT to pay attention to YouTube just before he started shoving YouTube videos at us. I have checked some of these and they are right-wing stuck together pieces intended to mislead. Do a search, for example, on Morgan Freeman/racism. You will find quite a different story than the one so many were salivating over a couple days ago.

Republican In Name Only is a pejorative term used by conservative members of the United States Republican Party to describe Republicans whose political views or actions they consider weak or lacking of a conservative. The acronym emerged in the 1990s. They are the politicians who run under the (R) name plate, yet follow the lead of the (D) party in most instances. They are the one’s who have been considered part of the swamp. Folks like Romney, McCain, Boehner, Collins, Murkowski and the list goes on. These people hardly ever support the (R) brand of thought or reason in which the people have voted for.
This is where the conflict originates. Trump’s platform was to drain the swamp, because they are considered to be part of the politicians which are under pressure to be drained from the polluted pool better known as the swamp.
