Protests with the Black Lives Matter movement continued in Santa Clarita with a “Skate for Peace” protest Saturday afternoon.
Dozens gathered at the In-N-Out parking lot on Bouquet Canyon Road, signs in hand, to skate to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
“Everyone out here is skating to bring peace to our community,” said Roman Ward, organizer of Saturday’s protest. “We are trying to spread our message and keep the Black Lives Matter movement going.”
On rollerblades, skateboards and bikes, the protestors moved to the Sheriff’s station along Valencia Boulevard. Along the way, passerbys honked in support of the group.

“I’m proud to be here. I’m ten years old,” said one activist. “I can’t vote, but I can still make a change.”
The peaceful protest moved to a grassy area in front of the Sheriff’s station, where organizers spoke on a microphone. Everyone was allowed to say a few words regarding recent events or share personal stories.
“Speaking up takes a lot of courage,” said protester Casley Bautista. “Regardless of whatever anyone believes here, I hope we never forget and never stop fighting for those beliefs, core values, equality and equity for all.”

Protests and rallies have taken place multiple times in Santa Clarita over the last few weeks, following the death of George Floyd, an unarmed African American man who died in police custody after being arrested in Minneapolis.
“It feels good that people actually care about this. It’s great to see everyone coming out here, supporting the cause,” Ward said.

Oh, my! We’ve lived happily in Santa Clarita for 30 years and I never realized how many racists live here! Please open your minds and think about how hateful your comments sound. Try to get to know some of your Black, etc., neighbors and find out what their lives have been like due to racist attitudes, and if you have any empathy at all, you hopefully may change your minds. I’m 73 years old and have learned “a few” things in my lifetime!

Black lives matter is not a hate group it is a group that hates how blacks are treated. Look at the history of our country and how blacks have been treated. My ancestors were brought here and helped build this country and still some are killed by a Knee, Rope, Gun and not treated fairly. If people of different races were lined up and all their skin removed no one could tell one from another. Racism is wrong period.
