Officials with the Los Angeles County Animal Care and Control have released the breed of dog that attacked and killed a Castaic man Friday.
The dog that attacked and killed Robert Stevens, 62, from Castaic, was a Rottweiler Mastiff, said Don Belton, a spokesperson for Animal Care and Control.
“The dog is in our custody,” Belton said. “The family surrendered the dog.”
The dog attack happened Friday around 4:10 p.m. on Gelding Road in Castaic, according to Sgt. Clark, with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
“The family dog attacked a male inside the house,” Clark said. “He did not survive from his wounds.”
The case is being investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau, however, they have not released any additional information about the incident.

Rottweiler is a breed.
Mastiffs are a group of breeds.
NBC says it was a rescued Cane Corso (a type of Mastiff).
I remember when County Animal Control announced “Rattlesnake eggs are hatching now”. They don’t “hatch”, rather are live bearing.
Alice, please rescue this dog for yourself.
Alice & Anne would rescue it & give it a Garshity “Welcome Home Basket” & a Obama/Newsom cell phone as well as a $500,000 dog house!
So ignorant!!!
How do we know the guy wasn’t abusing the dog? We need to hear the dog’s side of the story! Oh wait ……. They can’t defend themselves.
