Bridge To Home Announces Project To House 30 People Following The End Of Project Room Key

Bridge to Home announced the launch of Project 30, a new initiative to house the most vulnerable homeless neighbors by Jan. 5, 2021.

This project is the next step following the end of Project Room Key, a program in partnership with the state of California and local counties to secure hotel and motel rooms for vulnerable people experiencing homelessness.

During the initial COVID- 19 crisis, Bridge to Home took action by leading the Project Room Key effort to shelter the most medically challenged and vulnerable people experiencing homelessness in the Santa Clarita Valley. These people were sheltered at a local motel where they could be properly socially distanced.

Now is time to help these 30 people find permanent housing, according to Bridge to Home.

Due to the County’s new e-Housing Initiative, Bridge to Home has access to funding that will pay monthly rent directly to landlords and property owners, along with utilities and other expenses for up to 24 months. This project includes intensive professional case management and resource support with very low staffing to resident ratio, ensuring strong wrap-around support.

“This is an unprecedented opportunity to house people that are in desperate need.  With help from every corner of the community, our goal is to provide housing before Project Room Key ends,” said Bridge to Home Executive Director Michael Foley.  “The housing market remains very tight in the Santa Clarita Valley. However, with this special program, we can pay full rent for this unique population – the vast majority of who became homeless here in Santa Clarita and are already in our counseling system. Whether a studio, one-bedroom apartment, a room or shared housing, we have the resources to meet this need while developing even longer-term solutions to establishing permanent income.”

To reach this ambitious goal, Bridge to Home is requesting the community’s help to share information in regards to available housing. Anyone with access to housing resources is encouraged to contact Michael Foley at (661) 254-4663 or via email here

In support of Project 30 and the overall homeless to the housing program, Bridge to Home is also launching a massive volunteer program enabling community members to assist BTH staff with housing searches, moving and long-term coaching, mentoring and friendship support.

“If there is one thing we have learned about the journey to end homelessness, it is – the solution cannot be outsourced.  When neighbors and community members are trained and work side-by-side with professionals, coaching and befriending our neighbors experiencing homelessness, only then, can we have a tremendous impact. To meet this goal, BTH is proud to launch this community-wide volunteer opportunity– where people who care and are ready to step-up will receive significant training, guidance and support to make a true and lasting difference,” Foley said.

To become a part of this effort, please contact Volunteer Coordinate Randi Wyatt-Billings at (661) 313-9002 or email here.  To learn more and view the volunteer job descriptions, please visit the volunteer section on the Bridge to Home website.

“As BTH rises to meet the need in the community, we need donations and financial gifts, now more than ever,” said BTH Board Chair Tracey Carpentier. “While new public contracts help us meet the need, our continued success and effectiveness require community support through gifts, donations and volunteers.  To meet this challenge, we are campaigning to raise $300,000 before the end of the year.”

Along with requests for individual donations, the BTH Soup for the Soul gala is now a virtual holiday event scheduled for Dec. 5.

If residents or organizations are able, consider sponsoring this crucial event. Event sponsorship information and donations can be accessed on the Bridge to Home website

  1. I am 67 years old and a female. My roommate passed away in August and I will have nowhere to live in a couple of months. Anything you could do would help thank you so much.

  2. Anyone addressing the addiction and mental illness? Transients are usually one or the other. Sometimes both. Plenty of facilities and funding going to homelessness. It’s a transients CHOICE to not abide by rules at the facility. Like drug use, curfew, chores/work at the facility. They’d choose to live on the streets than to be drug free or have to partake in chores for free room and meals. It’s a choice.
