Santa Clarita RV Resort Residents Face Eviction Due To Zoning Violations

The deadline approaches for residents of the Cali Lake RV Resort, who are at risk of being evicted due to the park making expansions without the proper permits.

The Cali Lake RV Resorts is in violation of several zoning laws, and in order for it to get back up to code, the owner will have to downsize drastically, Los Angeles County Department of Regional Planning officials told Spectrum News 1 back in November.

Stewart Silver, the owner of the Cali Lake RV Resort added 56 new spaces when he bought the property back in 2018 and expanded without a permit, County officials told Spectrum News 1.

In November, the Cali Lake RV Resort was ordered to evict the 56 residents who were residing on the unpermitted property by June 19, according to officials.

As of Tuesday, the RV Resort still has nine more spots to clear by the June deadline, according to officials.

However, Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger is pushing state-level officials to delay the evictions while finding ways to prevent the residents from becoming homeless over something out of their control.

“The supervisor has been involved with the issue for about six months now and will be following this closely,” said Helen Chavez, director of communications for Barger.

Barger has recently put out a motion to help the residents of the RV resort which includes setting a motion that involves getting to know the people personally in order to better help them.

The second part of the motion was that Barger had reached out to the governor and had asked for an extension for the people living in the RV Resort.

“As of now we still have until the 19th and nine more RV’s we still need to displace,” said Michele Savino, the office manager for the Cali Lake RV Resort.

Until the deadline, Barger has helped residents move into other places temporarily such as hotels, added Savino.

The evictions were ordered by the County due to a threat of unsafe natural disaster evacuations and possible septic concerns.

Officials are worried that with more people living in the resort, which is in a high-risk area for flash floods and wildfires, the evacuation plans set in place won’t be executed properly. County officials are also concerned about the resort’s  septic system and its ability to accommodate the extra spaces, according to the Spectrum News 1 article

If the septic system does not function properly it poses an environmental risk to the nearby wildlife, including the endangered stickleback fish habitat, according to County officials.

“They are choosing a fish over human beings,” Silver said, in response to the county’s demands to Spectrum News 1

The spaces they want to remove are already built out, and people are already living in them, Silver told Spectrum News 1.

  1. Each county supervisor can take home a rV deweller as a solution for the over crowding park.
PS it’s kinda hard to be homeless when you live in a RV with wheels & engine, there are plenty of curb lines available, just look all around LaCity.

  2. Squalid illegal RV operation is a public health hazard. This place is a festering nuisance. Seize it, shut it down cleanup the property, County can operate legal sites that are supported by public health infrastructure.
Tow the inoperable RV’s into city limits of Los Angeles.
