Californians: Do Not Count The Middle Class Tax Refund As Income

In California the Middle Class Tax Refund is not set to count as income on federal tax filings.

On Friday, the IRS issued guidance that affirms people living in California do not have to count the middle class tax fund as income on their federal tax filings.

The announcement comes after California Senate and Assembly Republicans requested that President Biden exempt the 18 million residents who received middle class tax refunds from having the rebates taxed at a federal level.

“Taxing Californians on their tax refund is double dipping,” said Senator Rosilicie Ochoa Bogh, who represents parts of Riverside, San Bernardino and LA Counties. “With inflation already squeezing Californians, the federal government should not be taking more money out of working families’ pockets. I’m pleased to hear that the Biden Administration listened to our calls and will be exempting the Middle Class Tax Refund from federal income.”

Earlier in the week members of the California Senate and Assembly Republican Caucuses signed a letter delivered to President Biden calling for the federal government to exempt the Middle Class Tax Refund from federal income tax.

  1. This is some good news for Californians amidst the living crisis. We don’t want our governments to make mistakes that the UK governments have been making. People is power. I’m glad, the federal govt. have takes the necessary steps.

About Carl Goldman

Carl Goldman, along with his wife, Jeri repurchased KHTS AM-1220, Santa Clarita’s hometown station on October 24, 2003. They owned it from 1990-1998, and then sold it to Clear Channel Communication in 1998, buying it back from Clear Channel in 2003. Since then, they have rebuilt KHTS as a critical voice of the Valley. In 2015 the radio station moved to its new headquarters on Main Street in Old Town Newhall, in the original Newhall Hardware building. In 2018 an FM was added, 98.1, with its signal being simulcast with AM-1220. In January 2020, Carl and Jeri cruised on the Diamond Princess.
