Officials with the City of Santa Clarita confirmed Thursday that the beloved Canyon Country clock tower will remain in place, even as Starbucks gets ready to relocate to the iconic corner.
As early as 2017, Starbucks proposed a set of plans to demolish the Realty Executives building at Soledad and Whites Canyon Roads near the beloved Canyon Country clock tower site, said Jason Crawford, director of community development for the City of Santa Clarita.
Over the years, Starbucks has been closing down stores without drive-thrus and relocating staff and equipment to buildings with drive-thru options in the general vicinity. Santa Clarita has seen this shift at several locations in recent years, with current Starbucks locations including the former Burger King on Newhall Ranch Road, the original Telly’s Charburger’s location on Bouquet Canyon Road, and the former Macaroni Grill location on The Old Road.
“We know from hearing from the community how important the landmark sign is to the community,” Crawford said. “We made sure while working with Starbucks to find a way to keep it.”
Starbucks will keep the Canyon Country clock and thermometer and freshen it up by repainting it and replacing the Realty Executives logo with the Starbucks logo, according to Crawford.
“The sign itself will stay, we know that was important to the community,” Crawford said.
Within the last week, the Realty Executives building was torn down.
There is currently no expected date for when the soon-to-be-built location will be ready to begin serving coffee to the residents of Canyon Country.

Another Starbucks, what is scv at now 30, 35, maybe 40
This is so awesome to hear. We need to keep and treasure historical landmarks. I have lived in Canyon Country since 1997 and have used the clock tower as a landmark for friends that come here for the first time.
I hate to see New development destroying these historical things to put up housing.
PLEASE, PLEASE..CAN YOU START TO CONSIDER PUTING IN ROADS. If there is an emergency there are 4 roads to get out of this valley.
We need more meeting to inform our communities.
Imho Starbucks is a cult !! Evil cult.
I don’t understand why people spend obscene amounts of money on that stuff why can’t we have a nice locally owned cute coffee place.
Hi, I sent an email about 4 days ago asking if the clock tower was going to be saved and suggesting it should not be torn down. I did not receive a reply, which I realize you are busy. However, 2 days after I sent the email and mentioned it to my family my brother sent me this article. I’m proud to be a resident of Santa Clarita since 1971 for many reasons, and things like saving the clock tower is one of them.
The clock tower is beloved and historical? Really??
More idling cars. I don’t understand Starbucks and the State of California. They’re against fossil fuels, but now want us to use more fossil fuels for another 12 years at a drive-thru. No more straws, but use petroleum to idle while you were just fine getting out of your car across the street.
