The Dragon Boat community hosted their 4th annual Dragon Boat Festival on Saturday in Castaic to bring enthusiasts together.
On Saturday, the 4th annual Castaic Lake Dragon Boat Festival was hosted by the TDE Castaic Lake Dragon Boat Community team.
“It’s a get together of all the lower, all the southern California Dragon Boat teams and it’s a recreational so it’s really fun to bring our own team here, Team Dragon, so we can really help support this,” said Paul Lin, event coordinator.
Over 30 teams from different cities, states and even countries came to Castaic Lake to participate in the event and race against one another.
“We are a team, we are all from a university in China and it’s our second time participating in the event,” said Fei, a rower on one of the teams.
Those who attended the event could also watch stage performances including a Chinese lion dance, live music and dancing.
During last year’s event, they had over 450 paddlers in attendance from both children and adults, according to officials.
“We kept going to Long Beach to compete there and we were like ‘what if we tried something’ and talked to Dr. Chen, so we decided to get some teams together and it was like 20 teams and we got some medals,” said Lin.
