The Santa Clarita City Council, along with county transportation officials and community leaders, hosted their first-ever “dual ceremony” Tuesday morning, where they broke ground and cut a ribbon to mark the beginning of construction for the new Vista Canyon Metrolink Station and the completion of the new Vista Canyon parking structure.
On Tuesday morning, members of the Santa Clarita City Council, Santa Clarita Transit representatives and Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority officials broke ground on the Vista Canyon Metrolink Station and cut a ribbon to open a new parking structure nearby.
They were joined by Congressman Mike Garcia, R-Santa Clarita, and State Senator Scott Wilk, R-Santa Clarita, along with representatives from Assemblywoman Christy Smith, D-Santa Clarita, and Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger.
“I think we all are excited to see this Metrolink station take shape over the coming months, and to deliver the unparalleled public transportation services our residents expect and deserve,” said Santa Clarita Mayor Cameron Smyth.
Once completed, the Vista Canyon Metrolink Station will become part of Metrolink’s Antelope Valley Line, which runs between Lancaster and Los Angeles Union Station, while the nearby five-story parking structure offers 613 spaces for residents and visitors to use.
Both are located at the Vista Canyon development site, located along the 14 Freeway to the east of Via Princessa and Sand Canyon Road in Canyon Country.
“We’re amazed with what can happen here with the number of trips that can start and end here for Metrolink,” said Jim Backer, CEO of JSB Development, the company behind Vista Canyon.
Transit officials with the City of Santa Clarita estimate that the Vista Canyon Metrolink Station will see around 427,000 local trips and 45,000 commuter trips boarding and alighting each year.

Officials say that both the new Metrolink station and parking structure “support Vista Canyon’s goal of providing alternative forms of transportation and enhanced transportation options for every interest and need.”
“As we regrow our ridership, we are looking at providing more frequent, consistent service for Vista Canyon and other stations in Santa Clarita, as well as late-night service,” said Stephanie Wiggins, CEO of Metrolink. “So you can park your car in this very nice new parking structure, and take the train to work or wherever your life takes you.”
The Vista Canyon Metrolink Station is expected to be completed by early 2022.
