Officials with the City of Santa Clarita are set to discuss the purchase of the Valencia Ice Station during a special closed-session meeting Tuesday afternoon.
On Thursday, officials with the City of Santa Clarita posted an agenda for a special meeting scheduled to take place Tuesday afternoon. That agenda reveals that City officials are set to negotiate “price and terms of payment” for a property listed at 27745 Smyth Drive in Valencia.
The listed address in the agenda is the current location of the Valencia Ice Station, which was permanently closed down after being forced to close its doors on March 13 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The uncertainty of a reopening date combined with loss of income due to the COVID-19 pandemic has made a recovery unsurmountable and closing permanently unavoidable,” a statement listed on the Ice Station website at the time reads.
The 93,000 square-foot station had operated in the Santa Clarita Valley for the past 20 years, with tens of thousands of people using the facility each year. Several local hockey leagues and the Tri-Valley Figure Skating Club also held their practices and games at the facility.

Shortly after the closure was announced, residents began a petition in an effort to save the Valencia Ice Station, asking the City of Santa Clarita and the Los Angeles Kings to purchase the facility.
“The closing of the ice rink represents a significant loss for our local youth and their families,” wrote Santa Clarita resident Leigh Ann Dunleavy, who started the petition. “The Ice Station has truly been a home away from home for so many kids over the past two decades, giving them a safe place to congregate with their friends. Thousands of kids are devastated right now with the closing of their place to forget all their troubles and pursue their passion.”
The petition called for both the City of Santa Clarita and the Los Angeles Kings to purchase and operate the ice station so that it can “continue to bring joy to thousands in our local community.”
As of Thursday afternoon, the petition had amassed over 26,000 signatures.
The Special Meeting is set for Tuesday, July 14, at 5 p.m. For more information, click here.

This could be a great idea should future conditions warrant such action, to be repurposed as an emergency hospital overflow treatment facility for CV-19 cases. Could this have been in mind?
Even better would be a learning center, provided we get ourselves together with some real leadership and conquer this killer virus.
Best will be when we have the leadership that helped get us back closer to being ourselves and living our lives again having come up with a vaccine and cure.
Without vigilance from all us doing our parts we will have only the first option.
Maybe it’s time to take a break from the fake news Denny.
He can’t stop,
Danny,
How Pathetic. You need the leadership to be yourself and living your life? It might be time for a BLM, i mean BM, but you better check with your leadership first.
Could it be that the city is negotiating to get monies owed to it by IceStation Valencia? They are probably one of many creditors left in the dust.
