Congressman Mike Garcia Donates Part Of Monthly Salary To SCV Food Pantry

Congressman Mike Garcia, R-Santa Clarita, presented on Thursday his personal monthly donation from his September salary to the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry.

The Newhall non-profit that works to alleviate hunger in the SCV by providing food to those in need of assistance, especially seniors and working families, according to Garcia’s office.

“As we continue our fight against the coronavirus, we cannot forget the folks who are hurting most right now,” said Garcia. “Many of our friends and neighbors have lost their jobs and their livelihoods in the last seven months, and local non-profits like the SCV Food Pantry play a critical role in making sure every member of our community is able to make it through these tough times. I am proud to support the Food Pantry because I know the work they do makes a big impact on peoples’ lives, especially during a crisis like the one we face today.”

Garcia’s Food Pantry contribution follows last month’s split donation to the Antelope Valley Veterans Community Action Coalition, a nonprofit supporting local veterans with health care and financial assistance, and the Antelope Valley Sheriff’s Boosters, an organization that funds purchases of life-saving protective equipment for local deputies.

“The SCV Food Pantry is grateful for Congressman Garcia’s generous personal contribution. It’s community support like his that makes possible our important work, especially during this challenging time,” said SCV Food Pantry Board of Directors President Patrick Mullen. “Our largest source of donations, the Mail Carrier’s Food Drive, which provides several months’ worth of food was not held this year due to the pandemic, so the Congressman’s donation will be used to purchase food to help make up the difference.”

Garcia is expected to continue to fulfill the commitment he made in June to donate the equivalent of 10 percent of his monthly salary to local nonprofits as the 25th district continues to recover from the coronavirus pandemic.

The yearly salary of a member of Congress is $174,000, with 10 percent of the monthly salary of about $1,450.

  1. Good job! He is a great example of kindness to the rest of the community.

  2. Are any democrats doing something similar?

  3. Makes me happy to see a proud Republicans wearing a mask, unlike the thousands of morons who choose not to at Trump rallies.

  4. Good example to set Mike. You’ve already given more here than the Obama’s did when they made millions on book and speaking deals.

  5. Did you see their tax returns to confirm their charitable contributons? Or maybe their bankrptucies? Sources please.

  6. Thank you for giving back to those in need. Maybe Pelosi and Newsom could learn a thing or two from you. CA is in need. So many people are struggling and Pelosi is heartless like her nephew Newsom. Great job, Mike!

  7. The Obama tax returns were made public, if that’s what you’re asking.

  8. Virtue signaling two weeks before the election? I’m shocked.

Rep. Garcia should be in DC, getting a Coronavirus Relief package passed. This will help more than one local food bank.

BTW I donate money but don’t report it on tax forms.

  9. Meanwhile, in other Mike Garcia news:
Even though Mike wrote another letter to the president asking for federal aid due to our state’s horrific record-setting wildfires, as a payback for the state not voting for him, Trump said no aid for you.

    • Trump doesn’t want to help California at all! He’s trying to punish us because nobody here falls for his bullsh#t and nobody likes him! We’re smarter (obviously) than the rest of the country! We really don’t need him at all. We have a better economy than all the other states by ourselves! ?

      • More like why reward a state that thumbs it’s nose at basic practices that will reduce wildfires by clearing dead trees instead of worshiping animals and the environment! This state is insane and it’s about time somebody stands up to our ridiculous practices. I’m thankful for Trump! I didn’t support him in the beginning but boy did he turn out better than I anticipated!

    • D and AM, you folks always seem to, well you know, your not entitled to your own facts, well maybe when it comes to TDS you are.
In fact, this week the President made additional disaster assistance available to California by authorizing an increase in the level of Federal funding to 100%
And California Gov. Gavin Newsom released a statement today Friday Oct. 16, 2020 confirming the information.
“Just got off the phone with President Trump who has approved our Major Disaster Declaration request. Grateful for his quick response,” Newsom said in a statement Friday.
      Huh,

  10. FEDERAL land is what Trump is talking about being mismanaged, and he doesn’t even know it.

    • Flo
You have a lot of like-minded TDS friends on this chat,
      It’s not about Trump;
it’s about Congressman Mike Garcia, R-Santa Clarita donating to the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry.
      GO MIKE
