Congressman Mike Garcia Remarks On L.A. Protests, Death Of George Floyd

Newly-elected Congressman Mike Garcia, R-Santa Clarita, commented on current unrest across the nation Tuesday due to the death of George Floyd.

Garcia is praying for the family of George Floyd, as well as the victims and family members of those hurt and killed during the riots over the last week. He is a supporter of the prosecution of those responsible for Floyd’s death, stating that they “need to be prosecuted to the maximum extent of the law.”

“There is nothing more tragic and heartbreaking than the murder of an American,” Garcia said. “But an American murdered at the hands of another American is intolerable.”

Garcia encouraged those who choose to protest to do so in a “peaceful and legal manner.”

“We have the Constitutional right to protest in peace. We do not have a right to incite riots, promote violence, damage property or harm our fellow citizens,” said Garcia. “Anyone who decides to compromise the lawful protests with such illegal activity will also be held accountable by the full weight of the justice system.”

The congressman also encouraged his constituents in the 25th Congressional District — which includes Santa Clarita, Simi Valley and Palmdale — to adhere to the curfews set by County and City officials.

“In the wake of riots and looting in the LA area, we need to ensure we are adhering to the curfews and adhering to the guidance set by law enforcement here in California’s 25th Congressional District,” Garcia said.

Garcia reflected on the loss already suffered by the nation during the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, during which over 105,000 people have died due to the disease as of Tuesday, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

“I implore us all to take care of each other and not make things worse. I pray for George Floyd and his family, the law enforcement officers protecting us, the innocent victims of violence this last week, the business owners who have suffered so much and those who wish to peacefully demonstrate,” Garcia added. “We have an obligation to do things right while justice is served. Our children and future generations are watching how we conduct ourselves.”

  1. I appreciate that he did not blame “liberals” or democratic governors, like our president, and instead appealed to our common decency as human beings.

  2. The problem is that blacks or other minorities are NEVER held accountable. Standards are continually lowered so that the 13% or the national population that commits over half of the crime (the ‘cummuniTAY’) can get away with it.

As the riots in 1968 helped elect Richard Nixon, this will help re-elect Trump

    • The only thing to keep Trump in office would be him declaring martial law and cancelling the election which would result in a violent and bloody revolution. The country has had enough!

    • I am a proud Trumo support….I pray he wins again. MAY GOD STAY WITH HIM ALWAYS AND PROTECT HIM AND HIS FAMILY. LORD GUIDE HIM IN THESE TRYING TIMES. IN THE MDST OF ALL THESE INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE LOST THINKING Black Lives Matter is Not a Terrorost organization that’s agenda is anti white anti police please lord bring them to light and deliver justice to those who stand with this deplorable movement. Amen

      • Good luck! He’ll need more than a prayer! LOL! Everyone’s sick of this terrible person, and anyone with half a brain sees that! We can’t get his ass out soon enough! Begone!! 2020 is the year we get back to making our country great again! That can’t happen ‘til we take out the trash!

  3. well if they have the constitutional right to protest, and i have constitutional rights to bare arms so i can protect my family and property. No trespassing law.. is this country forgetting about your rights too. am i supposed to sit back and let them walk all over us.. Hell no.. i will peacefully hold my constitutional right in my hands..
The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution reads: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
They have no right to destroy property or take things with out permission this does not constitute freedom of speech

  4. Wow! You said a mouthful or a handful anyway. Your last line is spot on.
I’d like to ask you though, exactly which militia group you belong to.

We already went through the bear arms story here a couple months ago
when one was found under a truck.

  5. In all seriousness though… if you drop the 13% statistic you might be kind of R right? R is the N word for the other folks… just saying.

  6. There is a group of proud Americans of all races getting together to protect Santa Clarita stores if the cops won’t.

  7. Why do you think our local sheriffs won’t protect stores? How dare you accuse our good men and women of not doing their job? We haven’t had any looting that I know of in SCV. Am I right? I just saw a lot of concerned masked people participating in nonviolent direct action. It was actually inspiring to see, not frightening!
But like I’ve been hearing for weeks and weeks and weeks about COVID-19 : If you’re afraid, stay home!
