Emergency Locating System Markers Added To Santa Clarita Trails

The City of Santa Clarita has added hundreds of emergency locating system markers to city trails for hikers, bikers and trail runners to use during emergencies, officials said Wednesday.

The new signs are designed to help trail users discern their location on any particular route around the city, even in vast open space hiking areas, according to City officials.

As part of the system, a total of 658 markers have been posted every one-eighth mile on all city trails, including bike paths and hiking trails. Each marker displays a specific number, which corresponds to a map that first responders can then use to locate a given emergency.

The new system is an effort to cut down response times during emergency situations, according to officials.
