Extremely Quirky Destinations For Santa Clarita Residents To Visit – Ice Hotel

Why just go to any old hotel when there is a slew of unusual places to visit, like Sweden’s Ice Hotel, waiting to be discovered?

In the 41st part of a multi-part series, KHTS uncovers unusual destinations Santa Clarita residents can visit for their “quirky” getaway.

This week’s destination takes us to Jukkasjarvi, Sweden.

The Ice Hotel is the world’s first and largest hotel that offers a room made entirely of ice.

Because they are made of solid ice, the ice rooms are only available from December through April.

During the five months, the ice rooms are available. Guests can stay in one of the 15-20 standard rooms or in one of the art suites that features hand-carved work made of ice.

Each one of the art suites is individually designed and uniquely themed. All the rooms are kept to a cool temperature of 17 to 23 degrees Fahrenheit.

The bed visitors use to get some shut-eye has a sturdy wooden foundation and a thick mattress.

A warm sleeping bag and reindeer hides cover the bed. Each hotel room has its own set of curtains that can be drawn to provide a private space.

To make things cooler, the Ice Hotel also offers wedding packages with help from an in-house wedding coordinator who can assist in preparing a dream wedding.

The weddings occur in the Ice Hotel’s ceremony hall, which is redesigned yearly. The hall can hold 35-40 people and has additional uses, such as blessing ceremonies and vow renewals.

The hotel offers traditional rooms with a view of the snow outside for those who want to be in the winter wonderland without staying in an ice room.

While many ice rooms begin to melt away around April, the Ice Hotel came up with an ice experience available all year, but a stay can be especially enjoyable during Christmas.

It is a 22,604 square-foot art hall, with art and deluxe suites, an ice barn and an “experience room” where guests can learn about the Ice Hotel’s history through video, art and pictures.

With many different suites, there is something for everyone to enjoy, so book your stay before it melts away.
