Family Promise Of Santa Clarita Seeks Donations Amid Pandemic To Help Homeless Families

Family Promise of Santa Clarita is celebrating 10 years of operation this year, and are asking for donations to help homeless families during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Despite COVID-19 “radically” impacting the program when all 13 host congregations closed in March, Family Promise of Santa Clarita Valley rose to the new challenges in order to continue supporting those in need, according to the organization.

Family Promise has now pivoted to provide remote case management to over 66 families and sheltered 10 families, 28 people,  in motels for 67 days, according to officials.

Although times are tough for families in Santa Clarita a local donor couple provided the funding to buy a home which Family Promise renovated and furnished and now serves as its Transitional House, according to the nonprofit.

Two families moved in during September, with the youngest child 14 days old, according to officials.

“This is the power of community, what happens when you believe in hope and promise,” Family Promise officials said.

The Family Promise of Santa Clarita program has changed to meet the needs of our homeless families during these challenging times.

Due to the pandemic, Family Promise is still in need of help to continue to offer support to the homeless population of Santa Clarita.

Since opening its doors in June 2011, Family Promise has:

  • Housed 113 families (371 people) at congregations,
  • Provided motel stays for 74 families (240 people) for 287 nights,
  • Provided over 23,000 nightly beds,
  • Served over 78,000 meals,
  • Provided support services and supplies for over 3,300 people,
  • Provided Lyft, Uber and TAP cards for parents to go to work.

Until there are no children in the Santa Clarita Valley experiencing homelessness its work will continue, according to Family Promise officials.

All donations offer struggling families hope and a better future. The donation provides motel shelter, transportation support and case management to all homeless families, according to officials.
