Firefighters Come Together To Honor Fallen Comrade With Pickleball Tournament

Local firefighters came together Monday in Valencia to host a fundraiser playing pickleball in honor of a fallen Kern County firefighter who died in June.

On Monday, the firefighters brought together coworkers and family to play pickleball at the Paseo Club in Valencia in honor of their fallen friend Aiden Agnor, 18, a Kern County fireman who tragically passed away in June.

“We are just a group of firefighters that started a pickleball group for firefighters all about pickleball,” said Chad Chebbi, a former Kern County firefighter and event organizer.

Monday was the first tournament, bringing in the majority of local firefighters and their families to enjoy a few games of the fast-paced sport.

“The tournament took a somber turn when we heard about the passing of Aiden Agnor, he was a Kern County firefighter working on the helitack crew up there in Keene, unfortunately he was killed in a car accident on his way to work,” said Chebbi. “I used to work for Kern County Fire Department so it’s close to my heart and his uncle is a local captain here in Santa Clarita.”

The Paseo Club and many pickleball companies donated to the fundraiser, including several local coaches who have offered their time to bring the tournament to frutition, Chebbi added.

“The Paseo Club has been amazing… Jen Azevedo is fantastic, she has given us the courts for free and allowed us to host our events here,” Chebbi said.

Chebbi is hoping to host another tournament in November that will be available to the members of the Paseo Club.

The firefighters are hoping to raise $3,000 by the end of the day, and had already raised $4,200 by Monday afternoon.

All funds collected are set to be donated in Agnor’s name to the Wildland Firefighters Foundation at the request of his family, officials said.
