Former Astronaut Lands At TMU For A Panel

Astronaut Jeffery Williams, spoke with students and faculty at The Master’s University (TMU) on Friday to share his experiences about being in space.

After discussing his life and how he became an astronaut, Williams then went on to answer some questions that the students had about his time up in space.

One of the questions students asked was, ‘what did spiritual devotion look like during your time in space ?’

“I made sure to take a physical bible with me at one time and I had a fellow believer up in space with me and we would take communion every Sunday together,” said Williams.

Williams went on to discuss how he was able to manage stress while in space.

“I think all astronauts have a healthy understanding of what’s at stake and we know that we have a job that needs to get done,” said Williams.

Williams is a retired United States Army officer and a NASA astronaut and he is a veteran of four space flights and formerly held the American record for most days spent in space.

Williams first launched into space in 2002 and delivered supplies to the International Space Station (ISS) following three more visits to space.

Williams completed his fourth mission to space in 2016.

Some of Williams’ accomplishments are graduating first in the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School class 103 in 1993, was awarded two defence superior medals and four NASA space flight medals, Daedalian Foundation Fellowship Award for Graduate Study in Aeronautics in 1985 and two Meritorious Service Medals, the Army Commendation Medal.

Williams is scheduled to return to TMU this summer for a symposium for professionals in science, according to officials.

Williams is set to be a keynote speaker where they have scientists, mathematicians, engineers and anyone who is involved in technology who are christian.

“We are going to be gathering a bunch of like minded people but since it’s in the summer, we wanted to give students the opportunity to interact with Jeff Williams,” said Tai-Danae Bradley research professor of Math at TMU and event organiser.
