Former Volunteer Coach Causes Concern With ‘Target Practice’ Social Media Comment

A former volunteer football coach has caused concern on social media after a comment saying “I can use some target practice” in reference to a planned protest in Valencia.

In response to a friend’s post about the planned protests Thursday, Tony Moore made a comment of “If the protesters get stupid and violent, that we should give them a place to congregate as I could use some target practice.”

“This is was taken out of context and not meant in any way shape or form meant as anything towards our town or peaceful protesters,” Moore said in a follow-up post on social media. “A very poor choice of words as well.”

Moore said he is “100 percent in favor” of all peaceful protests and for what these protests stand for after George Floyd died in police custody.

“I was merely making a comment directed towards the supposed bussing in of violent people to our town and the violence that it could potentially bring as it did in Santa Monica and Long Beach. In no way, shape or form was it a threat, implied or otherwise, towards any of my fellow SCVers or peaceful protesters,” Moore said.

The William S. Hart Union School District has been advised that an individual made a comment online yesterday that has caused great concern as it has been construed to threaten protestors surrounding planned events in the Santa Clarita Valley, according to a district spokesperson.

“The individual has been falsely identified as an employee of the Hart District. The individual named previously volunteered as a walk-on coach, but has not been affiliated with the district for some time,” said district officials in a statement.

Nevertheless, the Hart District strongly condemns any threats of violence, especially given the tragic events of November 2019 at Saugus High School.

“Because safety remains our top priority, we have contacted law enforcement,” said District officials

  1. Here’s the post…

  2. Yea. It’s called critical thinking. Stupid is the opposite of peaceful in this context. No need to have him explain. It’s obvious. Did he say “if anyone wants to get peaceful…?” No he said “get stupid.” And I agree with him. We all know what he’s talking about. And I HATE the violence and would meet it with violence to defend myself and property as well. Wake up this guy is not a “concern”, rioting is concerning EVERYONE.

  3. Tony Moore IS A JOKESTER! HE DIDN’T MEAN IT LITERALLY!!! HE IS A GREAT MAN, FATHER, COACH AND FRIEND!!!

  4. For anyone to DOUBT the citizens of this community, to think that ‘looters’ would try to trash the SCV and think they would get away with it- I know this community and the GOOD people and GREAT sheriffs department, it wouldn’t happen.

  5. Gonna cry some more?

  6. He had pictures of himself in blackface on his Facebook. He’s trash.

  7. Gee, and I wonder why gun sales are way up. Lines outside waiting to get in. That stupid Garcetti is taking a million away from the police department. Try to get a cop to help you now. Citizens have to defend themselves. All because of modern day idiots!

  8. If he didn’t mean it he probably shouldn’t have said it. I LOVE the fact that people are getting called for their violent behavior for no reason. I hope he pays for it 🙂

  9. Just saw the blackface photos!!!!!
I can understand a comment in a Facebook thread but the blackface photos!!! And blackface photos being beaten by a white police officer!! Wow.

Not a current Saugus Hs coach but I heard he’s the president of Saugus Spartan pop warner youth football!!! He needs to be removed immediately!!!

  10. Who has planted this seed of fear in you? Nobody is being bussed into Santa Clarita.Maybe you need to get out more and meet the people in your community. The majority of the kids here either know each other or know of each other through their friends, schools or extracurricular activities. You however represent some of the dirty little secrets of our community. It’s time to.cast aside our fears and prejudices. It’s long overdue…thank goodness that our kids are not passing the torch of prejudice!

  11. No maybe he is not the person that you thought he was….one thing that I have learned about people is that actually say what they feel and believe…we just choose not to hear it because we don’t want to believe..but this is the man that you call friend….accept his character flaw for what it is…but I wouldn’t want him in my child’s classroom. I’m a firm believer that racism is taught and I choose to not to have this seed of hatred planted in my children. How do you hate someone and you know absolutely nothing about them because of a preconceived notion? Life is too short and this is no way to live it.

  12. Look at the blackface photos!
Of him dressed as a black prisoner and a white cop beating him!
    No excuses!
He’s the president of Saugus Spartan Pop Warner! He needs to go!
    He shouldn’t be around kids!

  13. And how long before he publicly “faux apologizes” you know, “I’m sorry if YOU were offended …. followed by, “I now know I have some learning to do…” followed by…”I am thankful to those who brought this to my attention, I plan to use this as an opportunity to learn/grow…” BLAH, BLAH, BLAH.

If it acts like a duck, looks like a duck; it is a duck.

  14. Very sad that a now former Spartan Football Coach would make comments like this . Sad for our community, sad for our kids , and even sadder when he has a picture in blackface on his now defunct Facebook page. He isn’t someone I would want painting my house , let alone coaching my kids Tony , action speaks louder then words …. your sorry… show it Those of you defending this person are just as guilty

  15. Wow a douche
