After a man and his canine companion sustained severe injuries Thursday evening in a rollover crash in Saugus, a GoFundMe page was set up to pay for the dog’s medical expenses.
At around 8:12 p.m. Thursday, a rollover crash occurred in front of Fire Station 128 on the 28400 block of Whites Canyon Road in Saugus, according to Miguel Orneles with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
The incident is believed to have been caused by a burst tire, according to the GoFundMe page.
The driver, Ryan Owens, was admitted to the hospital in critical condition with a broken femur and many broken ribs, while his dog Genie Rez, sustained two broken legs and possible internal bleeding, according to the donation page, according to the donation page.
The next day, Owens was still in critical condition and had to have a blood transfusion. Meanwhile, Genie received casts for both of her broken legs, and is expected to need further surgery.
“No one can be certain how she will respond to being put back into a vehicle, she has been very scared while being separated from Ryan,” reads a Facebook fundraiser page for the dog. “Always seeming to be looking for him.”

In an effort to raise funds for the dog’s medical bills, friends and family of Owens have set up two different fundraisers, one on Facebook and another on GoFundMe.
“The goal is the same on both… combined donations cover all of Genie Rez’ vet bills and emergency transport the night of the accident,” according to the GoFundMe page. “There is no donation too small.”
As of Monday afternoon, the GoFundMe page has already gathered over $4,000, while its Facebook equivalent has gathered nearly $6,000 dollars.

If the owner can speak, he could place a call to the vet and talk to the dog. Hearing his voice will promote less fear and the healing process can begin.
Sounds like a great idea to me!
