GoFundMe Set Up For Owner Of Liquor Store Shot In Attempted Canyon Country Robbery

A GoFundMe has been set up for the owner of the liquor store who was shot in an attempted Canyon Country robbery on Sunday.

Nick Durghalli was behind the counter at Golden Stop Liquor wrapping up a busy Super Bowl Sunday when a man entered the store with a gun.

The armed robber walked into the Canyon Country liquor store and demanded money from Durghalli and a customer.

“With the suspect’s gun held to the customer’s head, Nick took his opportunity to protect his customer and himself,” reads a statement from his family in the GoFundMe.

A gunfight ensued, with bullets striking Durghalli in the thigh and grazing his hand, according to the family.

The suspect died at the scene.

First responders arrived and rendered aid to Durghalli, who was found dragging himself outside the liquor store.

Durghalli was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital after suffering non-life threatening injuries.

“Although Nick is expected to make a full recovery, he does have a long road ahead of him,” his family said.

The GoFundMe is organized by Kelly Unger and Tonya Phillips, who are friends with Durghalli.

Phillips described the store owner as “someone who would give the shirt off his back to someone who needed it.” Phillps was returning from a Super Bowl party when she heard the news of the shooting.

“It was really scary,” Phillips said. “He is just such a great guy.”

“Nick and his family are overwhelmed with the amount of support and love they’ve received from their Golden Valley community, and even friends from across town, and appreciate all of our family, friends and customers,” the page reads.
