I-5 traffic through Santa Clarita had been stopped across all four lanes on the Northbound side of the freeway due to a big rig that stalled in the Castaic area. As of 6:29 p.m. on Tuesday, all four lanes have been reopened, according to CHP officials.

UPDATE 6:29 p.m. — All lanes are clear on the NB side of the I-5 as of 6:29 PM, according to CHP officials.
UPDATE 5:30 p.m. — “We received the call at 3:18 p.m. of a stalled big rig blocking the lanes,” said Elizabeth Kravig, Los Angeles Regional Traffic Management Center. “However, the truck was not involved in any traffic collision.”
TRAFFIC HAZARD: I5 N / CHP RD — CHP is reporting that a Big Rig is blocking all four lanes on the NB side of the freeway, bringing traffic to a halt for most commuters traveling north through Santa Clarita.
“SigAlert issued in Castaic: NB 1-5, north of CHP Rd, #1/2/3/4 lanes will be blocked until further notice due to a stalled big rig,” said the CHP’s LA County PIO Twitter account late Tuesday afternoon.
As of 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday traffic has been heavily impacted on the northbound side from Ridge Rite Rd. to near McBean Pkwy.
Commuters are advised to plan alternate routes or avoid driving entirely at this time.
As of 5:30 p.m., officials are still trying to clear the incident, but all 4 lanes remain closed.

Clarification: An earlier version of this article reported that eye witnesses had stated that the big rig had “overturned.” CHP officials have clarified that the incident was the result of the vehicle “stalling,” and blocking all four lanes. Reports of the truck having overturned were not confirmed.
