Initial Stages Of Santa Clarita Bike Park Construction Underway

Work has begun on a new Santa Clarita bike park facility geared towards BMX riders and mountain bikers near the Santa Clarita Sports Complex, according to City officials.

Construction started Tuesday, July 21 in the hills immediately behind the Santa Clarita Sports Complex on Centre Pointe Parkway, near the outdoor basketball court.

“The City is thrilled to begin grading on this much-anticipated project,” said Santa Clarita Mayor Cameron Smyth. “Residents have been wanting a bike park for years, and this new area will provide the perfect place to practice and develop skills right here in Santa Clarita.”

The project is still in its initial phase, grading the land, but work is expected to begin in the coming weeks with the addition of banks and jumps throughout the park.

The park is expected to be approximately seven acres in size and appropriate for riders of all ages and skill levels.

The difficulty of the park’s several single-track mountain bike trails are expected to range from easy to moderate and difficult.

Additionally, the park is expected to include roughly 330 yards of track featuring combination jumps, including step-ups, step-downs, rollers and tabletops.

“We are excited the Bike Park will be finished in the next month or so,” Smyth said. “With activities limited due to social distancing restrictions, being able to add a new active opportunity, that is by nature, a solo sport is a great benefit to our community.”

As of Thursday, the park is expected to be completed in August and open daily from dawn to dusk.
