L.A. Department Of Animal Care And Control Waives Pet License Renewal Late Fees

The L.A. County Department of Animal Care and Control (DACC) has announced that late fees will be waived for all new or renewed pet licenses between April 15th and June 30th, 2021 in response to the economic detriment of the COVID-19 pandemic. The DACC is also offering free microchips.

“We hope this license penalty amnesty program and the offer of free microchips encourages pet owners to license and protect their pets,” stated DACC Director Marcia Mayeda.

In response to the economic turmoil the pandemic has caused in many households, causing them to miss renewing or licensing their pet, incurring late fees, the DACC has released a new program, the Pet Licensing Amnesty Program, to provide LA County residents late fee  forgiveness and more economic opportunities to renew pet licenses.

Areas that qualify for this opportunity include unincorporated Los Angeles County areas such as Castaic and Stevenson Ranch, as well as the cities of Agoura Hills, Azusa, Carson, Inglewood, Irwindale, La Habra Heights, Maywood, Palmdale, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates, and Walnut.

In addition to waiving late fees between April and June, the DACC is also offering free microchips during this same period. The DACC emphasizes the importance of microchipping your pet because “it greatly increases the likelihood that lost pets will be returned to their families”.

Microchipping is mandatory in all unincorporated LA County areas and many cities within the county as well. To access the free microchipping services, make an appointment with any of the seven DACC animal care shelters.
