LASD Deputy Loses Home In Bobcat Fire, GoFundMe Set Up To Support

A GoFundMe has been set up to support a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy who lost his Antelope Valley home in the Bobcat Fire earlier this week.

Deputy Josh Stamsek, who formerly served at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, lost his home to the Bobcat Fire as it burned northward into the Antelope Valley.

The Bobcat officially became the third-largest fire in Los Angeles County history Monday, burning approximately 105,345 acres with only 15 percent containment.

An assessment of how many structures have been damaged or destroyed has not been made available as of Monday, however social media reports the Devil’s Punchbowl Nature Center and several homes in the Antelope Valley — including Stamsek’s — have been burnt down.

The cause of the Bobcat Fire is as of yet unknown.

Deputy Stamsek has been a member of the department for 13 years, 3 of those years being at the Santa Clarita station, according to SCV spokesperson Deputy Natalie Arriaga.

“At this time he wishes that people make donations to the several other residents of the communities who have been affected.  He currently has a good support system and is very appreciative of all the outreach,” said Arriaga.

He served as a Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) zone leader for the Saugus area with the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station, as well as a Field Training Officer, according to an SCV Sheriff Facebook Post from 2018.

“Deputy Stamsek served with Santa Clarita Station for a number of years as a Field Training Officer and was one of the most generous and kind-hearted deputies I had the pleasure of working with,” said the GoFundMe organizer, Jacob Royston. “Please join me in assisting Deputy Stamsek with the long and costly road to rebuilding after this tragedy.

As of Monday, the GoFundMe had raised over $9,000, well outpacing the original goal of $5,000.

  1. Are you telling me, this man — making good money thanks to a union job — did not have *fire insurance*?! He *had* to have or he wouldn’t have gotten a mortgage. Seriously, what is he trying to pull?

    • Do you have fire insurance, P.L. Miller?? I don’t. I don’t have earthquake insurance either. It’s very expensive and I am not anticipating a fire or an earthquake anytime soon. The deputy isn’t trying to pull anything. Have some compassion. The guy lost everything he had. He probably didn’t set up the go fund me, a friend might have. Someone that feels bad for him, isn’t judging him & wants to help him. Geezus.

    • We have two neighbors who lost their home in the Tick Fire. Their homes still haven’t been rebuilt. Not sure if it’s an insurance and contractor work issue, but saddens me because they still have to pay to live somewhere else in the mean time and insurance can be a pain in the ass. One was not a homeowner, but renters, a young family with three little ones, and had zero renters insurance. They had to learn the hard way about the power of having good insurance.
Money runs out eventually. Also, and unfortunately they likely will get dropped if they rebuild in the same area. I’m hearing carriers are doing that more in California wildfire risk areas like ours. That’s why unless my house burns to the ground, I don’t claim a thing.

    • P.L. Miller most likely is a supporter of Antifa and defunding the police with comments like that. Most definitely a supporter of Biden, Harris and Pelosi. Idiot!

    • I lived in Juniper Hills for over 24 years. Many lost their fire and earthquake insurance in this rural area due to fires and earthquakes in California. This was a stunning beautiful area that was a secluded gem. This gentleman, much like everyone in Juniper Hills is part of a unique community that comes together when there is a crisis or someone is indeed of help. I pray that you will never face the devastation of a fire and lose everything you own.

    • P.L. Miller, instead of worrying if he’s pulling something maybe you should spend some time pulling your head out of your butt.

    • what kind of an idiot are you? Anybody losing their home or personal property is a tragedy and then morons like you chime in with your asinine opinions about about who should have insurance and whose running a scam! This “gentleman” deputy even asked that people give to others in the community since he had a good support group! This is a person who leaves his family to go out and put his life in harms way “EVEN FOR IDIOTS LIKE YOU”, So keep flapping the gums of your brainless head until you reach the rock you crawled out from under and pontificate why your life is so miserable that you feel it necessary to spew your hate on everyone else!

I hope you are never faced with losing all your life’s possessions and nowhere to go, maybe try being a little kinder and working on your support group for when you might need them in the future.

  2. He is not trying to have people buy him a new house. It’s to help with some basic necessities since he lost everything. The goal was set at $5,000 the article said. C’mon……..turn off CNN and go eat a bowl of some common sense.

  4. Man… I live on the east side about five miles out of little rock and it’s very nerve-racking. I hope he finds solace in the fact that people care about him and his situation.

  5. Lots of haters trolling local news…

Donated ✅ Hoping he can get a few necessities. My friends lost their home 2 years ago in a CA fire and have yet to get insurance to pay for things needed. Insurance is battling power company for who pays what. In the meantime, our friends still don’t have a home rebuilt or any payout. It can drag on for years, with insurance.

  6. Marcella, Thank you for being an example for others to follow.
