‘Light Up Main Street’ In Old Town Newhall: Where To Park, Road Closures

“Light Up Main Street” in Old Town Newhall is set for Saturday, so here are the best places to park and planned road closures for the annual holiday event.

Light Up Main Street celebrates the beginning of the holiday season by illuminating the pine tree in front of the Old Town Newhall Library. The spectacle is set to cause some road closures throughout the day of the event, according to officials.

Lyons Avenue is set to be closed between Railroad Avenue and Walnut Street, and Main Street to be closed between Lyons Avenue and Market Street, with both closures starting at 10 a.m. and ending at midnight.

Both Walnut Street and Market Street will remain open to through traffic. Detours will be made available to help residents avoid road closures in the area, according to Carrie Lujan, spokesperson for the City of Santa Clarita.

Those attending the event are encouraged to park in the new structure on the corner of 9th Street and Railroad Avenue, or the lot located at 22421 Market Street.

Attendees this year are expected to have the opportunity to play in real snow on Main Street, shop for local and handmade gifts from the businesses in Old Town Newhall and dine at one of the many restaurants in the area serving up a wide range of dishes.

Children can also expect to take a photo with Santa Claus and make free crafts to take home. Food trucks are set to be on-site selling sweet and savory options for dinner and dessert as well.

Light Up Main Street is set for Saturday, Nov. 16 beginning at 6 p.m.

At 7:30 p.m., members of the Santa Clarita City Council are scheduled to officially illuminate the lights on a 23-foot-tall Christmas tree and overhead displays along Main Street in front of the Old Town Newhall Library.

Following the tree lighting, attendees can attend a free concert by “Midnight Ride,” a party band that plays hit songs from a variety of genres and eras, until 9 p.m.

  1. Where to park? For a Newhall event? You gotta be kidding!
There is only one place and that’s the world renowned architecturally resplendent state of the art beautiful downtown Newhall parking structure with its unparalleled views of the entire Santa Clarita Valley. Sheesh… show some respect.
