‘Light Up Main Street’ Returns To Old Town Newhall

“Light Up Main Street” is set to return to Old Town Newhall later this month, which is the unofficial start of the holiday season in Santa Clarita, officials said Friday.

The Santa Clarita City Council invites residents and guests to attend an evening of entertainment and holiday cheer in Old Town Newhall on Saturday, Nov. 16, beginning at 6 p.m., according to city officials.

“Light Up Main Street unofficially opens the holiday season in Santa Clarita and unites residents for an evening of music, activities and more,” City officials said in a news release.

The holiday event is set to be hosted by KTLA Morning News co-anchor and Santa Clarita resident Chris Schauble, according to officials.

Attendees this year can expect to have the opportunity to play in real snow on Main Street, shop for local and handmade gifts from the small businesses in Old Town Newhall and dine at one of the many restaurants in the area serving up a wide range of cuisine, according to officials.

At 7:30 p.m., members of the Santa Clarita City Council are set to officially illuminate the lights on a 23-foot-tall Christmas tree and overhead displays along Main Street in front of Old Town Newhall Library.

Following the tree lighting, attendees are set to be presented a free concert by “Midnight Ride,” a party band that plays popular songs from a variety of genres and eras, until 9 p.m.

Road closures are expected for Main  Street and Lyons Avenue for a majority of the day, according to event organizers.

Lyons Avenue is scheduled to be closed between Railroad Avenue and Walnut Street and Main Street is expected to be closed between Lyons Avenue and Market Street between 10 a.m. and end at midnight, according to officials.

However, both Walnut Street and Market Street are expected to remain open, according to officials.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
