A Santa Clarita man was found deceased by CHP early Sunday morning near the Newhall 5/14 Freeway interchange.
Around 3:41 a.m. Sunday, officers with the California Highway Patrol Newhall Area Office: responded to the southbound 5 Freeway interchange to the northbound 14 Freeway regarding a vehicle partially blocking the traffic lanes, according to Josh Greengard, spokesperson for the CHP Office.
“CHP Newhall personnel arrived on scene to find the vehicle unoccupied,” Greengard said. “CHP Newhall personnel searched the area for a pedestrian, but were unable to locate anyone.”
Officers conducted a welfare check at the residence and contacted the vehicle registered owner’s mother who told law enforcement her son had mental health issues, according to a CHP report.
“Newhall personnel returned to the area and continued to search for the registered owner,” the report continued. “At approximately 5:30 a.m., CHP personnel located a body, northeast of The Old Road, under the I-5 and SR-14 transition ramps.”
CHP officers were able to get to the body at approximately 5:42 a.m., and observed he was unresponsive, according to officials.
CHP officers started CPR until paramedics arrived on scene, and pronounced him dead on arrival.
Kirk Michael Macdonald, 53, from Santa Clarita was the man found dead, said Sarah Ardalani, spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

Dead on Arrival means that he was transported to a medical facility, most frequently a hospital. Was he transported to a hospital?
No DOA means found dead at the location
Not necessarily true. The actual definition is: used to describe a person who is declared dead immediately upon arrival at a hospital.
While I agree it’s more likely they found him deceased at the location he was found. Dennis isn’t incorrect.
Dennis has it right. Dead on arrival means that a transported person is pronounce dead when he/she arrives at the hospital etc. What the reporter should say is that the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
