Memorial Service To Be Held For Matthew Colley

A memorial service is set to be held over the weekend in Santa Clarita in honor of Matthew Ryan Colley, who died a few days before his 29th birthday in June.

Matthew’s memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, allowing friends and family to say their farewells to a young man who left the world too soon.

A resident of Canyon Country, Matthew passed away on Saturday, June 5th. He was born June 9, 1992, while his family was stationed in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The sixth and youngest child of Ed and Kathy Colley, Matt moved to Canyon Country with his family in 1995, graduating from Canyon High School earning an Associate’s degree from College of the Canyons.

Matt worked as a member of the KHTS Web/Marketing department where he excelled in web design and web development — largely self-taught skills.

“Matt was the sort of person who you knew would go on to do great things, he was an absolute tech wizard and had grown into a lovely young man in the time we knew him,” said KHTS Co-Owner Jeri Seratti-Goldman. “We miss him dearly.”

According to his family, Matt enjoyed learning relatively random things from the internet and podcasts and listened to both at warp speed. Matt loved video games and played with many people online, including his best friend and nephew, Alex, and even made trips to attend conventions across the country despite his aversions to traveling and being out of his “element”.

As an adult, he became more adventurous and enjoyed snowmobiling, dirt-biking, and snowboarding; he excelled at all three. Matt loved and devoted much of his time to his dog, “40.”

“He had the patience of a saint with his dog and his beloved nieces and nephews,” according to his family.

Matthew is survived by his parents, Edward and Kathryn Colley, his siblings, Melissa, Carolyn, and James, his nephews, Alexander and Tyler, his nieces, Katelyn, Juliana and Allison.

Matt was predeceased by his older brothers, Alan and Stephen, and his grandparents, Aldine and Earl Colley and Jacqueline Pavia.

The memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 7th at the United Methodist Church on Bouquet Canyon Road. Public viewing will take place from 12:30-2:30 p.m., and the Celebration of Life will be held from 2:30-3:30 p.m.

  1. Too young. The article fails to give the cause of death.

    • Whenever you don’t see that information it may be at the family’s request, and this article is mainly to inform readers of the memorial service, the first article written back in June may answer that question for you.

  2. My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Colley family- this is tragic. Captain Colley-you touched my life and the lives of all your JROTC cadets, and it breaks my heart to hear about losing Stephen, Allen, and now Matt. God bless you all!
