Mountasia Under Renovation After Being Purchased By MB2 Raceways

Mountasia Family Fun Center in Santa Clarita has been purchased by MB2 Raceways in Sylmar and is currently under renovation, with new additions as well as a new park name coming.

Due to COVID-19 closing down the entertainment center last March, Mountasia’s owners were forced to sell their business after not being able to make ends meet.

MB2 Raceways in Sylmar purchased Mountasia and is currently renovating the entire park, keeping some things the same in addition to renaming the park and adding new games to attract an older audience.

“It will have a sports bar-type restaurant with beer and wine,” said Jared Sheff, the general manager for MB2.

While the indoor part of the amusement park is expected to still have arcade games aimed towards younger gamers such as laser tag, MB2 also plans to install sports simulation suites Sheff said.

These “swing suites” include different sports simulators that are intended to attract adults more toward their late 20s and 30s, rather than the current child-oriented playrooms, Sheff said.

In addition to the sports simulators, another new addition to the indoor center is duckpin bowling.

“Duckpin bowling is bowling, but with smaller lanes and balls,” Sheff said. “You palm the ball instead of holding it with your fingers.”

MB2 also has plans to renovate the outside area, making upgrades to some of the existing main attractions, which include batting cages, a mini-golf course, and a wetland with bumper boats.

“We are pretty much updating and renovating every inch of the place,” Sheff said.

Currently, crews are updating the miniature golf course by upgrading all the fencing around the course, replacing the holes and carpet, according to Sheff.

There are plans to update the bumper boats and go-kart track as well.

There are a few different plans that the new owners of the amusement park have for the go-kart track, however, as of Wednesday, it is unclear which direction they will choose to go.

One option is to set up the go-kart track similarly to the Sylmar location, by offering races for younger children as well as adults, Sheff said.

Due to the amusement park still being under renovation and the ongoing pandemic, it is still unclear when the park is expected to open.

However, the new owners — who still have not decided on the exact name of their new purchase — are hoping to at least be able to reopen the outdoor section of the amusement park by the summertime, according to Sheff.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
