Movie Theaters Allowed To Reopen In California With Limited Capacity, Safety Protocols

Movie theaters are allowed to reopen in California as early as Friday, but Regal has not announced the reopening of theaters in Santa Clarita.

The reopening of movie theaters has been approved with guidelines from the state including, limiting the number of attendees in each theater to 25 percent of theater capacity or a maximum of 100 attendees, whichever is lower, according to the guidelines.

Theaters are also required to implement a reservation system to limit the number of attendees entering the theater at a time whenever possible and designate arrival times as part of reservations, if possible so that customers arrive at and enter the theater in staggered groups, according to the state.

To encourage social distancing theatres are encouraged to reconfigure, close or otherwise remove seats from use to ensure physical distancing of at least six feet between attendees.

“This may require seating every other row or blocking off or removing seats in a ‘checkerboard’ style, use each row but make sure no one is directly behind other patrons so that distances are maintained in all directions,” reads the guidelines.

Members of the same household may be seated together but should maintain at least six feet of distance from other households, according to the state.

Face coverings should be worn by patrons when not eating or drinking. At a minimum, face coverings should be worn when entering and exiting theaters, when obtaining refreshments at the concession stand, and whenever physical distancing cannot be maintained, according to the guidelines

If offering drive-in movies, ensure that vehicles have at least six feet of distance between them.

Regal, the company that operates Edwards movie theaters in Valencia and Canyon Country, was unavailable for comment.

  1. We can protest packed together on the streets but we can’t go inside a movie theater unless we wear a mask and sit 6 ft apart. We can protest in large groups but we can’t allow our children a graduation ceremony with attendees.

We can protest in groups without social distancing, without masks but we can’t visit family in the hospital or attend a funeral. SMH this is idiotic.

  2. Well, it’s been proven that you have so much more chance getting COVID-19 INDOORS rather than OUTDOORS. That could be part of it.
Not sure Regal is going to open soon or not, but regardless, there’s no way I’m going to a theater any time soon! No reason to just ‘ask’ for it! No, no, no!
