Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies are set to partner up with Ralphs and Walmart pharmacies on Saturday to accept unused medications from the public for safe disposal during National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, officials said.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 26 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., said Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
Santa Clarita residents are encouraged to utilize these drug take-back days to dispose of their unused medications instead of throwing them in the trash, according to officials.
“If the meds are thrown in the trash, they are subject to others possibly getting ahold of them and using them, whether it be kids or individuals fighting drug addictions,” Miller said in a previous article. “By disposing of them safely, residents are doing their part to fight against drug abuse.”

Officials are also encouraging residents to avoid disposing of medications by flushing them down the toilet.
When medication is flushed down the toilet, it could pollute water sources and have negative effects on the environment, according to officials.
There are two locations available to drop off unused prescription medication:
- The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, located at 23740 Magic Mountain Parkway in Santa Clarita; or
- Walmart, located at 26471 Carl Boyer Drive in Canyon Country.
