The Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) placed a new paramedic squad into service Thursday morning to serve the Santa Clarita Valley.
The new paramedic squad calls Fire Station 104 on Golden Valley Road its new home, alongside Quint 104, said Maria Grycan, spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Fire Division 3.
“Squad 104 went into service this morning at 8 a.m.,” Grycan said. “This will be a tremendous asset not only for the City of Santa Clarita but for the Santa Clarita Valley as a whole.”
Paramedic squads are equipped with two medics and advanced life support (ALS) equipment to treat all emergency calls, from cardiac arrest to car crashes.
The Santa Clarita Valley now has a total of six paramedic squads scattered throughout our community.
Although these paramedic squads respond to medical emergencies, they cannot transport patients to the hospital, according to Fire officials.
The LACoFD contracts with American Medical Response (AMR) utilizing their ambulances equipped with two EMTs.
If a patient meets certain criteria, a paramedic from the LACoFD squad will ride in the ambulance to provide ALS support to the patient with the help of the AMR EMTs.
