Newhall DMV To Close Half-Day For Customer Service Training

The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is scheduled to be closed for a half-day Wednesday for the purpose of giving employees training on customer service skills related to “Real ID,” officials said.

The Newhall DMV office is set to join DMV offices statewide in opening late on Wednesday, July 24, according to officials.

The Newhall DMV is set to open at 1 p.m. instead of the usual 9 a.m., said Jaime Garza, a spokesperson for the California DMV.

“We had to make changes to the originally approved method by which we were collecting two residency documents from REAL ID applicants,” Garza said in a previous KHTS article. “The DMV is now mailing letters to REAL ID cardholders who submitted one proof of residency; having them verify their address, sign, date and return the letter to the DMV.”

Officials say that the focus of the half-day training is to ensure DMV employees are quickly and courteously informing customers of the REAL ID, the changes and transactions regarding it.

The training is set to occur statewide, and roughly 5,000 personnel are expected to be involved simultaneously.

“This is a new process and we want to make sure everyone is well-trained and versed with the overall REAL ID program,” Garza said.

Input from the frontline employees shaped the program that aims to improve communication and processes relating to REAL ID, according to Garza.

“Our employees are the heart of every transaction we perform,” said Garza. “And with this commitment to training, we can ensure they have the proper tools, knowledge and experience to provide excellent customer service with the goal of reducing wait times by better communicating the REAL ID program with the public and improving transaction times.”

The DMV phone services, online services and remote kiosks are set to be available the entire day.

“There are a lot of other avenues for DMV transactions,” added Garza. “Twenty percent of people who come into the office never had to step foot in the building.”

Newhall DMV To Close Half-Day For Customer Service Training

  1. This DMV office should close for a whole day and learn out to be courteous to customers, amongst other things, and to help fix their own mistakes..
I go to the office in Santa Paula which all of the employees there are nice, actually speak to you and help you get your business done as quick as possible without any issues.
I did my commercial license renewal along with the Real ID and I was out of there in less than half an hour!!
The Newhall office should could learn a lot from them, in addition, learn not how to create issues, which it took me 3 months to straighten out a problem they created which almost cost me a suspension of my license.

  2. Half a day? From what I’ve encountered, they need more than a 1/2 day. More like 1/2 year.

  3. I feel like it’s the people who are actually rude to the employees more so than employees being rude to customers. My wife and I have been there countless times. Other than the obvious wait, I don’t see why people get upset. Perhaps employees are tired of people getting upset at them when then don’t provide proper or all documentation. I’ve seen this first hand getting the real ID. People are enraged that they can’t use certain documents and start yelling at the employees. People need to research what they need to bring before going to the DMV. Doing so will make the process alot faster for everyone and alot less stressful.

  4. Posted a good comment. However name and email were not correct, They were. How often do you forget your name and. e-mail. Tried twice and maybe that was my. failure

  5. Thats good for the employees

  6. Got my real id when my license was expiring.

I HAD A VALID US PASSPORT WITH MY PICTURE.
NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP,
NEED PAPER WITH SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER AND IT MUST SAY SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER.

I HAD MY VALID CALIFORNIA DRIVERS LICENSE.
NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR RESIDENCY. NEED TWO UTILITY BILLS.

WENT TO THE NEWHALL DMV WITH AN APPOINTMENT.
AFTER AN HOUR AND ONE HALF, SIX LINES, I WAS FINISHED.

GOT MY REAL ID LICENSE, AND A MONTH LATER GOT A NOTICE TO SEND BACK EVEN THOUGH I SUBMITTED TWO UTILITY BILLS.

    MESSED UP!

  7. Don’t get me started on the CA DMV. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.

  8. 1/2 DAY??? It’s going to take a lot longer than that! This is the worst DMV office I’ve ever been to! Horrible service, and the manager is not too bright…

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
