‘Nite To Shine’ Prom Brings Special Needs Community Together At Real Life Church

The Nite to Shine prom was hosted at Real Life Church Friday night, bringing together over one hundred people from Santa Clarita’s special needs community for a special night.

In association with the Tim Tebow Foundation, the event featured honored guests ages 14 years and above that each had a tailored experience meant for their enjoyment, safety and comfort, according to the Night to Shine website.

“It’s free for all the guests, we have amazing partners that have come alongside us who have donated money, resources, everything from hair and makeup products.  Men’s Warehouse came along and made it possible for people to be in tuxes,” said Real Life Church Executive Pastor Fred Gray. “The community has stepped up to be amazing.”

On top of a free, night-long dance with food and drinks, honored guests were given a tuxedo or prom dress rental, hair, make-up, shoe shines, and a corsage or boutonniere. The dancers were then loaded onto party buses, and dropped off at a red carpet rolled out just for them.

Each honored guest was introduced by name as they walked the red carpet, had their photo taken and then joined their friends on the dance floor.

“Our special friends here tonight are an underserved community and we value that underserved community,” Gray said. “As the hands and feet of Jesus, we feel it’s just important to acknowledge them and to be able to serve them in this way, and that’s special for us too,”

Last year, 655 churches from around the world came together on a single night to host Night to Shine for approximately 100,000 honored guests through the support of 200,000 volunteers, according to organizers.
