Pace Bike Share Program Discontinued In Santa Clarita

The Pace bike share program has been discontinued by the parent company, Zagster, amid the COVID-19 outbreak, officials said Friday.

Zagster is reportedly shutting down operations across the country, after pausing the bike-sharing program in March to curb the spread of coronavirus.

“We were saddened to hear that the Pace Bike Share Program is no longer able to offer service in Santa Clarita. We know many of our residents and visitors enjoyed using Pace bikes to explore our City, get exercise or as a daily commute option, Evan Thomason, with the economic development for the City of Santa Clarita.

In March, Zagster released a statement announcing the pause of the program, adding “Our focus right now is to protect the health and safety of our operations staff who maintain and service our fleets and you, the rider.”

The program was brought to Santa Clarita in December of 2018 after a survey conducted by the City of Santa Clarita indicated that 75 percent of residents were in favor of bike-sharing.

“The Pace Bike Share pilot program showed our community would embrace micro-mobility and we now have a good amount of data that will hopefully guide us to another solution in the future,” Thomason said.

Previously there were 12 docking stations across the Santa Clarita Valley, including the Valencia Town Center and several Metrolink stations.

Zagster did not respond to a request for comment on the discontinuation of the Pace bike share program in Santa Clarita.

For refunds on credits still on the Pace app, Zagster said staffing at their call center is being impacted by COVID-19, but to email here to terminate any accounts.

  1. BS, it wasn’t because of the Wuhan, China virus, it wasn’t making enough money! People want to drive! In Marina Del Rey etc. they took away license & registration paying car lanes(road diets) for bikey lanes which are under used!

  2. From what I can tell – it looks like the parent company “sold” the business to a competitor?

Learning’s? It would have been helpful if the city would have provided how many rides/transactions took place during the period of time the bikes were available. Since Santa Clarita is spread out – and not as urban as Pasadena, Santa Monica, Long Beach, etc. – probably the better option would have been the e-scooters.

As far refunds – the city should have insisted and made clear that all patrons would be refunded any funds remaining in their accounts without having to jump through hoops to attempt to obtain a refund from a non-existent customer service department. Best option – charge back the amount with your credit card provider, or in case of a debit card, your bank.

Sounds just like the game the airlines wanted to play with cancelled flights – no refunds, just a silly voucher, until you complained to the D.O.T. – then like magic – within a few days – a credit appears on your statement.

Also, if the city is owed any money by this company – the city should immediately store the bikes until any and all remaining debt is paid by the company – thus not leaving the taxpayers holding the empty bag!
