Peaceful Black Lives Matter protests have continued in Santa Clarita for the fourth day Tuesday, as Los Angeles County has called for a third-straight day of curfews due to unrest in other parts of Southern California.
On Saturday, hundreds gathered on the corner of Valencia Boulevard and McBean Parkway to protest the death of George Floyd, who died while in police custody in Minneapolis. That movement is still ongoing in Santa Clarita, as the demonstrations continued into Tuesday.
“There is a serious injustice and we need to do something about it,” said one of the protesters, Jeremy Bauer. “I grew up here in Santa Clarita, born and raised. To be out here protesting with my community means everything because there is change we really need to see in the world.”
The crowd of a few dozen on Tuesday was much smaller than Saturday, where hundreds gathered on the street corners, at one point blocking a major intersection in Valencia.
“I’m here because as an African American I am tired of seeing this happen,” said protestor Kim Barnes on Saturday. “I don’t have the words to describe how I feel right now. I’m tired of us not being treated as human.”
Despite law enforcement later declaring the protest an “unlawful assembly” as protestors were blocking a major intersection in Valencia, no arrests or injuries were reported in connection with Saturday’s protest.

“Our deputies handled the situation very well and all was kept orderly,” said Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. “We were prepared for whatever could have happened. We prepared for the worst case scenario, but thankfully all turned out okay.”
On Sunday, a significantly lower number of people returned to Valencia to continue their peaceful protest. Meanwhile, larger and more violent protests continued to break out across Los Angeles County, prompting Supervisor Kathryn Barger to declare a state of emergency for the county.
“This emergency comes as we are in the midst of battling another emergency caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. This taxes our resources, but not our resolve,” Barger said in a statement at the time. “We will do everything in our power to keep our communities safe and protect lives and property. I continue to call on our residents to maintain calm and seek solutions productively, not destructively.”
In response to the growing violence, Barger and L.A. County Sheriff Alex Villanueva then instituted a county-wide curfew, requiring all residents to stay home between 6 p.m. Sunday and 6 a.m. Monday.
The Los Angeles curfew was then extended twice to last 6 p.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday.

With the Hennepin Country coroner report noting that he had both Fentnyl and Meth in his system, maybe the protest should be called drug using criminal lives matter
Yes I read that too he was on meth , lesson here is when your already caught breaking the law you might as well go peacefully before they have to take you forcibly. They need to change their protest to something less racist because all lives matter not just the black ones. Maybe , SPB stop police brutality or end police brutality. There is a lot of angry proud Americans pissed off at these thugs for destroying and looting American businesses in the name of Blm.
Shyness is it the media is so quiet on the drug finding. Maybe this could hurt their agenda
Are you serious? Being on drugs or not is besides the point, that doesn’t give police the right to kill him when he is already down and in handcuffs! If you watched the video footage from the beginning you see that he was not resisting and again, if he was it does not mean they have the right to murder him! This is why people are out there fighting because people want to justify the murder by bringing up things that are NOT the point! You are both idiots and clearly don’t understand anything!!
A black criminal was tortured by a psycho cop. You want to turn him into a hero And now we’re all on lock down because of mass looting and destruction and were idiots. Why don’t you explain this to me. Because those shop owners did nothing yet some have lost everything. I did nothing but I am locked up at night with a scared family. Most cops did nothing yet they’re all putting their lives on the line now to make sure you still live your privileged life. YOU Are the idiot
You are clearly part of the ignorant crowd. This whole blm hate group is counter productive to your cause. The cops have no choice but to have guns drawn when they pull the black man over out of fear he might get shot. Same goes for store owners after all this looting they have no choice but to follow around the black ones out of fear they will steal something. Great job!
Regardless of what was in in system, that man did not put up a fight!! Santa Clarita residents loves their meth and heroin too so don’t act like it’s not in your community. Stop being a hypocrite and just look with your own eyes how cocky and arrogant that police officer looked while he held his knee for 8 minutes on a human beings throat!
Well said.
No it was homicide: mechanical asphyxiation and/or cardiopulmonary arrest complicating law enforcement subdual, restraint and neck compression. This was verified by two separate and independent autopsy reports. Neither indicated drugs contributed to Mr. Floyd’s murder.
Nice try, but go blow smoke up someone else’s ass. Spreading lies helps no one in this situation and makes you appear petty, stupid and a tad desperate.
Nice job with two emails to promote the hate group blm. If these people caught breaking the law would just go peacefully they would still be Alive, I guess the lesson for everyone is don’t do the crime if you don’t want to do the time.
He wasn’t resisting at all and there was no proof he had committed a crime. In this case the cops were wrong and deserve to be charged with murder. Normally I would be on the cops side but I saw that video and the cop’s actions were horrifying.
Anytime you break the law you put yourself and others in dangerous and unpredictable situations. I heard too that he was doing drugs. Which makes two laws broken and more danger and unpredictability. Mr Floyd did not deserve to die. But he put himself at risk by his own actions. And now we want to turn him into a hero or something. Are people protesting for Mr Floyd, then go to Minnesota where this happened. Police brutality? Then protest the police chief because in most cases these bad cops have done this before and should have been fired already(and by the way this police chief should be fired and he happens to be black). Are we protesting social injustice? I need help on that one because I don’t know how blacks are treated differently in social situations. I certainly don’t.
Black people commit more crimes than most other races so therefore put themselves a total risk for bad things to happen. Has anybody thought maybe we should put some focus on less criminal behavior?

Paragraph 3…
no lies here
Can you or anyone else please explain how drugs could have been found in Mr. Floyd’s system almost immediately when we all know, or should, toxicology tests take 4-6 weeks? Something stinks here.
Denying facts stinks
Sitting on someone’s neck stinks
sensationalizing a criminal stinks
Looting and destruction stinks
Racism stinks
Not giving the public all the info stinks
An inept police chief stinks
Being scared to leave your house stinks
I could go on and on
Agreed, but my question remains. Can you or anybody shed some light?
This is getting old already. Find another productive, impactful way to make change happen. Blocking the roads and shoving Blm on the very people who are not even the slightest racist is getting old. There will always be hate crimes. This is reality. ALL LIVES MATTER
It was police brutality, it doesn’t matter if Lysol was in his system.
No it doesn’t matter what was in his system, but, did that contribute to his death? What that cop did appeared very wrong. The Liberal biased press paints him as a wonderful gentleman. He was in the police car and then taken back out to the ground. What bad BEHAVIORS by him caused that and once on the ground? He was a career criminal in multiple states and illegal hard deadly drugs, Fentanyl & Meth were found at autopsy!
