A green comet last spotted from earth during the Stone Age will be visible from the northern hemisphere tonight and for the rest of the week.
The harmless green comet, last spotted over 50,000 years ago, is set to be closest to the earth on Thursday.
“Comets are notoriously unpredictable, but if this one continues its current trend in brightness, it’ll be easy to spot with binoculars, and it’s just possible it could become visible to the unaided eye under dark skies,” NASA said.
The comet is named C/2022 E3 (ZTF) and was first discovered last March by astronomers at the Palomar Observatory in San Diego County.
It was named ZTF after the Zwicky Transient Facility where it was discovered.
On Thursday, the comet will reach about 27 million miles away from Earth.
It is set to pass between Earth and Mars at a speed of nearly 130,000 miles per hour. The nucleus is thought to be about a mile across, according to KTLA. Its tails extend for millions of miles.
