Debuting at the “Thrill Capital of the World” this weekend, Six Flags Magic Mountain has announced their grand opening of the tallest and longest single-rail coaster in history: The Wonder Woman Flight of Courage.
Six Flags Magic Mountain’s record 20th roller coaster, the most at any theme park in the world, is opening to the public on Saturday. Wonder Woman Flight of Courage is the tallest and longest single-rail coaster on the planet where riders fly over 3,300 feet of track, towering 13 stories and soaring at speeds up to 58 miles per hour, according to Six Flags Magic Mountain officials.
“Not only is this remarkable coaster towering behind me the tallest and longest single-rail coaster in the world, it is also the record 20 to be added to our iconic collection of world-class coasters,” said Kirk Smith, Six Flags Magic Mountain west coast director of marketing.
The Wonder Woman Flight of Courage carries up to 12 passengers with each seated in one seat per row across 3,300 feet of single-rail I-beam track and up a 131-foot lift hill, according to project organizers.
“Wonder Woman’s Flight of Courage will take brave and courageous riders on a nearly two-minute journey through over 3,300 feet of coaster track beginning with an 87-degree plunge, down a 1,031-foot first drop, followed by three dramatic inversions, including a 180-degree stall, a raven drop and zero gravity roll – all while riding one in front of the other on this single-rail coaster track,” Smith said.
The Wonder Woman Flight of Courage was designed as part of the reimagined DC Universe to showcase the legacy of Wonder Woman herself by exemplifying the superhero’s traits of strength and speed, according to officials.
The Greek architecture-themed ride queue has been refined to immerse riders in the history of her life and explain how she obtained her powers before riders embark on the ride.
“Riders will join forces with Wonder Woman in the fight for truth, justice, and equality, to embark on an incredible journey of heroic feats, propelled through dives, banks, rolls and turns designed to challenge the bravest of thrill-seekers,” read a statement from a Six Flags Magic Mountain’s announcement.
In partnership with Warner Bros. Entertainment, Six Flags Magic Mountain unveiled their record-breaking single-rail coaster to a select group of media on Thursday, including KHTS Radio.
Following the opening ceremony, first responders, including a group of female deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station were among the first riders in the group to embark on the thrilling single-rail coaster, giving the real-life heroes the opportunity to channel their inner Wonder Woman.
