Ortiz discussed with KHTS that he was feeling much better, and that being ill with COVID-19 was “terrible.”
Hospital staff lined the hallways, offering applause and well-wishes for Ortiz, and congratulating him on his recovery.
Ortiz is now recuperating at home with his family after being released from the hospital.
Just the week before, Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial had celebrated the recovery of another COVID-19 patient, 75-year-old Jim Mastrobuono.

Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital staff noted at the time that they appreciated being able to see a patient recover, especially in light of the fact that COVID-19 is now the leading cause of death in Los Angeles County.
“It gives all of us at Henry Mayo a big morale boost whenever a patient leaves here and is reunited with loved ones. That, of course, is always our goal, with COVID-19 or any patients,” said President and CEO Roger E. Seaver.
While 23 COVID-19 patients are currently in the hospital as of Friday, a total of 33 have recovered and been discharged, according to Henry Mayo spokesperson Patrick Moody.
The patients are being treated on a designated floor of the newly-built patient tower, with each patient receiving the correct level of care without using beds in the Intensive Care Unit, according to the hospital.
