On March 21, at the age of 80, Santa Clarita actor and stuntman Rene Veluzat, known for his ownership of Blue Cloud Movie Ranch and Diamond V Movie Ranch, passed away.
Veluzat, an actor and stuntman known most for his ownership of two movie ranches in Santa Clarita, passed away on March 21, 2021 after a reportedly long battle with cancer.
“I have known Rene for many many years and I had nothing but total admiration for the gentleman,” said City Councilman Bob Kellar. “He provided the locations for many tremendous films for this community. He was just a gentleman and a great person.”
Veluzat, born in 1940, was known across the Santa Clarita Valley for having owned and operated two popular movie ranches, Blue Cloud Movie Ranch and Diamond V Movie Ranch, used heavily for local film and television productions.
Veluzat’s movie ranches were known for being used in such productions as Iron Man, True Blood, and American Sniper.
“He was very loved in the community and a wonderful man, a fixture in the community. He meant a lot to filming and will be greatly missed,” said Evan Thomason, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Film Office.
Veluzat’s son Marc continues the family’s tradition as ranch manager for the Diamond V Movie Ranch.
“The one thing I would really like everyone to know about my dad is that he was an honest man,” said Veluzat’s son. “It was so very important to him to do the right thing because it was right.”
Veluzat’s friends on social media involved in television production posted that he was one of the nicest people to grace a Hollywood production and a true mentor.
“He led by example,” said Marc Veluzat. “He would go out of his way for the smallest people, the productions with very little money.”
Veluzat also wrote a book entitled “My High Adventures Behind the Movie Scenes,” chronicling his experiences in the movie business and still available on Amazon.
“He was a huge cheerleader for filming in Santa Clarita,” said Veluzat’s good friend of twenty years Jason Crawford, economic development director for the city of Santa Clarita. “He was absolutely the life of any room he walked into.”
Veluzat will be remembered for his hard work and value to his community, and he will be dearly missed by his friends and family.
