‘Ride For A Cure’ In Santa Clarita To Be Hosted By Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital

“Ride for a Cure” in Santa Clarita, a fundraising event hosted by Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, is set to help raise funds for breast cancer treatment with a spin-bike marathon, officials said Monday.

Proceeds from the event go to the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Center, with more than $11,000 raised at last year’s event, according to officials.

The idea behind “Ride for a Cure” was combining the center’s initiative of early detection with a fundraising opportunity that takes the least amount of effort while still providing a great outcome, said Janet Cheveres, event organizer.

“When I discovered that several regular attendees of my classes went in for routine screenings at the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Center and received early diagnoses of breast cancer, I was inspired to do more to help the center fight this disease,” Cheveres said.

“Ride for a Cure” is comprised of a spin-bike marathon session that runs for two hours. Riders have the option to obtain “sponsors” to pledge donations for their participation in the event.

Those sponsors then have the opportunity to take part in a raffle of various prizes, as well as a free dinner.

“I’m looking forward to another successful event this year,” Cheveres said. “It’s that time of year again where we urge you all to come out, clip in and get your sweat on for this worthy cause. It’s fun with a purpose.”

All proceeds are set to be donated to the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Center to help provide early detection for underserved men and women, according to officials.

The event is expected to take place at the Santa Clarita Athletic Club on Oct. 18 at 4:40 p.m. Advanced registration with a flat rate donation of $35 is required.
