Ring In The Holidays With ‘Light Up Main Street’ In Old Town Newhall

With the holiday season approaching, the Santa Clarita community is invited to Light Up Main Street in Old Town Newhall to kick off the winter season this Saturday.

The 12-hour full street closure of Main Street and partial closure of Lyons Avenue is scheduled to begin the celebration where attendees can enjoy real snow, festival performances, snacking, reindeer appearances and pictures with Santa, according to the City of Santa Clarita.

Beginning at 6:30 p.m. in front of the Old Town Newhall Library on Nov. 20, the event is expected to be kicked off by a “momentous lighting of the 25-foot-tall Christmas tree and thousands of lights,” according to the City of Santa Clarita.

Following the ceremony, attendees are invited to disperse onto Main Street to dance to the songs of “Electronic Vinyl,” play in 20 tons of authentic snow, take photos with Santa Claus, write letters with the Santa Clarita Public Library and much more.

Six different performances are also expected to be held throughout the night by various groups on the Community Stage near 6th Street and Main Street outside of the Canyon Theatre Guild, located at 24242 Main Street, according to the City of Santa Clarita.

Ten local food truck vendors are scheduled to be in attendance along Main Street during the Nov 20 event, offering sweet and savory options throughout the evening.

Local craft vendors near the food truck area are also expected to sell holiday-themed crafts and decorations for a one-of-a-kind winter season, according to the City of Santa Clarita.

Santa Clarita residents are being asked to be mindful of road closures that are scheduled to be in effect for Light Up Main Street.

Lyons Avenue is expected to be closed between Railroad and Newhall Avenues. Main Street is set to undergo a full street closure between Lyons Avenue and the roundabout, according to the City of Santa Clarita.

Residents are asked to use Railroad or Newhall Avenues as a detour with both closures expected to begin at 10 a.m. and end at midnight, according to the City of Santa Clarita.

Free public parking is available at the parking structure on 9th Street as well as at the Newhall Community Center, located at 22421 Market Street.
