Santa Clarita Grocery, LDS Church Organize, Distribute Donations Under ‘Summer Of Service’

On Tuesday, Aug. 3, a 52-foot truck from Utah delivered 24 pallets of dried goods and fresh dairy products as a part of a joint volunteer effort with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and the Santa Clarita Grocery, titled, The Abundant Life / Summer of Service.

Local members of the LDS church and volunteers with Santa Clarita Grocery worked together to offload and organize the donations for storage and later distribution on Saturday, Aug. 7.

The 52-foot semi-truck came all the way from Utah, filled with items that are difficult for the free grocery to get, including canned goods, gallons of fresh milk, butter, cheese and dried goods, 25 pallets in all, according to organizers.

“The LDS church was holding a regional Single Adult conference in SCV, which part of the conference was to do one of 3 community outreach projects,” said Bradley Grose, Founder of Santa Clarita Grocery. “One of which was S.C. Grocery food drop, prep, and stack of the goods in the warehouse racks.”

Two shifts of young adults from the LDS conference helped arrange items for later distribution Santa Clarita to families in need.

The warehouse neighbor of Santa Clarita Grocery, Tackle Express, offered to store the 25 pallets in their warehouse from Tuesday through Saturday when the event took place, according to Grose.

Santa Clarita Grocery now offers fresh groceries three times a week via their drive-thru groceries pickup service. People are free to drive up between 5:30 and 7 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday or 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Those looking to get in touch with the Santa Clarita food pantry can contact them through the Santa Clarita Grocery website or by calling (661) 425-7575.
