The Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the City of Santa Clarita, recognized local veterans for their service to our nation and their leadership within the community last Thursday.
At the SCV Senior Center at Bella Vida, community members gathered to honor eight veterans for their sacrifices and contributions to our nation and community.
Among the individuals recognized was Blanca Godinez, a decorated U.S. Army veteran and dedicated member of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department at the Santa Clarita Valley Station.
Stephanie English, who presented Blanca’s story, expressed pride in Godinez’s achievements and dedication, adding that her community service is as impactful as her military service.
“She said what’s rewarding about her job is that people think they get away with stuff, but they just build the evidence and build the evidence,” English said. “What’s also rewarding is when the victims get to have that sense of closure and justice for what they’ve suffered. So thank you for what you do… we’re very proud of your service, both in our community and as a veteran for our country.”
Before turning to law enforcement, Godinez served in the United States Army for 15 years, reaching the rank of sergeant first class. She is a combat veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom, having served two tours in Afghanistan in 2012 and 2014.
During her service, she volunteered for two special assignments, including work at a combat hospital, where she prepared deceased veterans’ bodies for their honorable journey home.
Currently, she continues her military service as a platoon sergeant.
Godinez transitioned to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in 2016, completing her training in Santa Clarita. After 11 months working in custody at the Central Regional Detention Facility, she served in patrol for seven years at the Lakewood station, including four years as a senior field training officer. In May 2024, she was promoted to detective at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s station, where she finds fulfillment in bringing victims a sense of closure and justice, according to English.
Beyond her professional responsibilities, Godinez is an active athlete, participating in events like the Baker to Vegas relay, the Police and Fire Olympics women’s basketball team, and the Police Unity Tour, a 250-mile bike ride from New Jersey to Washington, D.C.
“Honoring our veterans at this annual celebration is not only a privilege but a powerful reminder of their impact both here in the Santa Clarita Valley and across the nation,” said Becki Robb, 2024 Chair of the SCV Chamber Board. “This year’s honorees were chosen from a remarkable group of nominees, each of whom has shown immense dedication to our country and local business community.”
Throughout October, local chamber members and residents nominated veterans who have made lasting impacts on the Santa Clarita Valley’s business landscape. This year’s selection committee reviewed a high volume of nominations, ultimately choosing eight honorees for their exceptional contributions.

Veterans whose names were not selected this year will automatically be considered for future recognition, ensuring their legacies are celebrated in years to come.
“We’re deeply honored to celebrate these exceptional veterans who have served our nation and have since become integral contributors to our community,” said Ivan Volschenk, President/CEO of the SCV Chamber. “As our final signature event of the year, there’s no more meaningful way to close out 2024 than by honoring the lasting impact of these remarkable individuals. We’re grateful for the overwhelming support and nominations from the community and invite everyone to join us in recognizing their legacy.”
