Santa Clarita Marathon To Close Streets Over The Weekend

The 2019 Santa Clarita Marathon is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, November 2 and 3, causing streets to be closed for a portion of the day.

The public can expect minor delays and rolling road and parking lot closures periodically on both days to accommodate all races. Detours are expected to be provided for major road closures, and residents are asked to plan ahead to avoid delays, according to officials.

The majority of Santa Clarita Marathon events are set to take place on city multi-use trails to reduce the number of street closures, and officials are encouraging residents to adjust their trail usage until after the conclusion of all events to avoid interfering with runners on the course.

Trails planned to be included are the West River Trail, South Fork Trail, Chuck Pontius Commuter-Rail Trail, Valencia Paseos and San Francisquito Trail.

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station personnel is expected to control intersections for residents living in affected areas.

The Santa Clarita Marathon is now in its 24th year, preparing to begin with a 10K and 5K on Saturday, Nov. 2. The marathon, half marathon and Mayor’s Walk are set to be held on Sunday, Nov. 3.

The full marathon is an official qualifier for the Boston Marathon, and attracts runners from across the United States and the world as a result, according to officials.

The Santa Clarita Health and Fitness Expo is set to be located at the Westfield Valencia Town Center and open to the public on Friday, Nov. 1 from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
