Santa Clarita Memorial Day Celebration Commenced At Eternal Valley

Santa Clarita Valley Veterans Memorial Committee and Eternal Valley Memorial Park hosted a Memorial Day celebration to honor veterans and military families in Santa Clarita Monday.

The Memorial Day event, hosted at Eternal Valley Memorial Park, set to bring the community together to celebrate, honor and remember America’s heroes who gave their lives in the line of duty.

“On this day more than any other, we come together as a nation to remember those who have given all, and pay respect and honor to their families,” said Congressman Mike Garcia, R-Santa Clarita in a speech Monday. “We also must remember this every day of every year, and for the entirety of our lives.”

The event included multiple speeches, vehicles and items from the Gulf War era, as well as a flyover by AT-6 planes of the Condor Squadron, marking the commencement of the Annual Tribute to veterans.

The event was organized by the Santa Clarita Valley Veterans Memorial Committee and Eternal Valley Memorial Park, with additional sponsorship by Area Brownies, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Boy Scouts who placed more than 5,000 American flags on the graves of veterans.

Following the ceremony, audience members were invited to the Veterans Memorial Wall for the reading of the more than 900 names inscribed on the wall.

Amongst the many veterans and families present, Assemblymember Suzette Valladares and Mayor of Santa Clarita Bill Miranda were also in attendance.

“We can’t forget why we are here. Not why we are here at this ceremony, but why we are here as a nation,” concluded Garcia.

  1. We were there! Fantastic service and ceremony! A very proud and uplifting time for me personally. An experience of optimism, honor, and hope amongst so much chaos, negativity, and despair within our beautiful nation these days. Honoring those who sacrificed for our freedoms is a duty of citizenship.
