Santa Clarita Metrolink Station Now Equipped With Electric Vehicle Charging Station

Santa Clarita City officials unveiled the new electric vehicle charging station at the Santa Clarita Metrolink Station during a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday.

The new dual charging station, accessible through a membership with the EVConnect application, was the eighth site installed in the city.

Members of the Santa Clarita City Council, City staff, representatives from the Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Review Committee (MSRC) and local residents attended the ceremony.

The location was selected to serve those who are committed to reducing their carbon emissions and traffic congestion, according to Mayor Marsha McLean.

“All electric vehicles produce zero tailpipe emissions,” said McLean. “When compared to a gasoline powered vehicle, an all-electric vehicle produces 9,461 less amounts of carbon dioxide each year. This is equivalent to an average annual reduction of 82 percent of CO2 emissions per vehicle on the road.”

As part of Santa Clarita’s 2020 plan under the theme of Sustaining Public Infrastructure, City officials are currently seeking funding to implement additional alternative fuel stations throughout the community to meet the growing demand.

Using the EV Connect App, commuters will be able to use the charging station, which is equipped with two types of charger connectors for maximum utility, both CHAdeMO and CCS.

The new charging station joins the ranks of others located around the city, including:

  • Valencia Hyatt – 24500 Town Center Drive
  • Nissan of Valencia – 24111 Creekside Road
  • Kohl’s Santa Clarita – 19307 Golden Valley Road
  • Castaic Lake RV Park – 31540 Ridge Route Road

  1. It’s been there for almost a year and I’ve only seen two cars ever connected. A lot of the time those spots are blocked for the soil testing trucks. How bad is the soil there?
