Santa Clarita Ranks In Top Worst Cities To Grow A Healthy Lawn

Santa Clarita was ranked in the top cities where “lawns go to die,” due to the ongoing drought and water restrictions.

In a study conducted by Love Lawn, Santa Clarita was ranked the fourth worst place to grow a healthy lawn due to the drought and watering restrictions plaguing Southern California.

To find out what cities were the worse to grow healthy grass, Lawn Love  ranked nearly 200 of the biggest U.S. cities to determine 2022’s Cities “Where Lawns Go to Die.”

“We looked for cities with high risk of drought, wildfire and heatwaves, in addition to forced water cuts and extreme weather,” Love Lawn officials said. “We also weighed the water requirement for each city’s most common grass types against the average yard size.”

Currently, Santa Clarita residents are only able to water their lawns three times a week for 10 minutes each day.

Due to the lack of watering, lawns across our valley have started to become an eyesore rather than a welcoming home improvement.

A majority of the cities where lawns go to die are in southern and Central California which include:

  • Bakersfield, CA
  • Fresno, CA
  • Palmdale, CA
  • Santa Clarita, CA
  • Scottsdale, AZ
  • Pasadena, CA
  • Lancaster, CA
  • Reno, NV
  • Peoria, AZ
  • Pomona, CA
