Santa Clarita Road Rehab Program To Begin Next Month, Impacting Traffic

Officials with the City of Santa Clarita announced Thursday their annual road rehab program is scheduled to begin Monday affecting portions of Rye and Placerita Canyon Roads as well as residential streets, officials said.

The road rehab program consists of slurry seal, a coating treatment designed to preserve and extend the life of the road, and overlay treatments, the removal and replacement of existing pavement that has extensive damage, where a slurry seal will no longer be adequate, according to City officials.

On Tuesday, June 9, the Santa Clarita City Council approved a contract with Toro Enterprises Inc. for the overlay portion and Pavement Coatings Co. for the slurry seal portion of the Road Rehab program.

The overlay portion of this year’s Road Rehab project will consist of overlay treatments for Placerita Canyon Road between Sand Canyon Road to the western city limits, and Rye Canyon Road between Avenue Scott and Newhall Ranch Road, according to officials.

The slurry seal portion of this year’s Road Rehab project is expected to be performed on neighborhood streets and collector streets citywide, according to officials.

Road Rehab is set to continue through the summer months and residents are asked to be aware of construction notification signs on residential and arterial streets, and to follow altered traffic patterns and roadway restrictions carefully.

Residents are expected to be provided with multiple notifications prior to the start of construction in their area, according to officials.

All cars that are parked in a temporary “No Parking” zone during posted construction times are expected to be towed, according to City officials.

Door hangers and handbills are set to be distributed to homes that will be directly affected throughout the course of the project, including dates and approximate construction hours.

Construction is expected to occur Monday through Friday. Work on residential streets is planned to take place during daytime hours to cause the least disruption to residents. Work on arterial streets may occur during daytime hours or overnight to avoid major traffic impacts, according to officials.

  1. STOP! If they are the same company that slurried Caitlin Lane and the surrounding neighborhoods off Bouquet Canyon, they did a HORRIBLE JOB. We are still struggling with the topping coming up, divots and imprints from tires, cracks on the surface, surface material coming up daily and being tracked into our drains and driveways. Street sweeping only continues to brings up additional material. Our continued complaints have been met with LIES from the City that it was going to be fixed. It’s now been a year. It has NEVER ADDRESSED.

  2. Placerita Canyon from Sand Canyon to the western city limits? I thought it ended just W of the 14 Fwy. at the Halliburton yard.
